I heard that there is a workaround with the Steam version. You replace the Dead Space 2 Steam version's exe file to the pre-DLC exe file, and you're good to go.

I got the Origin version because there was a time when you could get Dead Space 2 from Origin, and you had the option to update or not update the game to include the DLC. Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason Origin now downloads the DLC along with the game, so we, as the paying customers, no longer have the choice to play the game with or without the DLC. They decided unilaterally to take away a choice that we used to have.
I would have loved to play this game without the DLC for my first playthrough.
