Re: EA app crashes at startup, background service problem

Ok, so in case you are having the same problem, this seems to be one possible solution:

Go to Apps and Features in the settings app.

Uninstall(!) the Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 (-2022)  x86 and x64, don't uninstall the older ones.

Download the Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 (both x86 and x64).

Install it.

You are good to go.

Important: Don't repair the existing Visual C++ Redistributable 2015, I tried that myself and that didn't work. By the way, this also seems to fix Battlefield 4 launching into Blackscreen.

Thanks to user @puzzlezaddict who came up with this solution on a similar problem (https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports-Technical-Issues/EA-App-won-t-install/m-p/12121175#M12388).

    This also solved my problem with the EABackgroundService crashing on startup.

    I tried doing this, but the link doesn't seem to have a link to download a 2015 version, only 2015-2022 which seems to be exactly what I just deleted.

    Did something change since this was posted or am I missing something?

    I was having background services crashed errors and everything I tried wasn't working until this fix! I followed these instructions and it didn't work at first but I just pressed the restart button, it updated (it said it was already updated every time before this) and now I can open my app! Thank you @puzzlezaddict for saving my * once again and thanks to @BenediktinerBene for passing along the info!
