Hi everyone,

Thank you for bringing up the issue you're experiencing with the EA app for PC displaying the message, "An update is required to launch this game...".

This usually means that either your EA app for PC is outdated, or there is a game update that needs to be installed before you can launch the game again. This is particularly common for The Sims 4 for Windows. For more information, please click HERE.

    None of these solutions work. After clearing the cache and repairing both The Sims 4 and the EA App it continued to give me the "An update is required to launch this game" error. The only thing that worked was manually setting my date back to yesterday when I was able to play The Sims 4. This doesn't seem like it should be the resolution that should be done, but it worked for me. I doubt this is a permanent solution so I do hope that EA is working on a proper fix to this. My Windows 11 system and all my drivers have been recently updated and I have no third party anti-virus, mods or third party firewall.

    @EA_Leeuw none of the steps resolved the issue..
    1. the app has been updated through the "EA app updater" and says it is up to date.
    2. i have tried to recover the app however it tells me i need to close my game first. i do not have a game open or running.
    3. ive tried following the steps to repair the game, however it does not work.

    To answer your questions..
    - Im experiencing issues with The Sims 4
    - I am playing on a windows PC
    - The version of EA appim using is

  • @EA_Leeuw Still having the same issue launching Sims 4 despite trying the fixes

    Playing on PC - Windows 10 Pro

    The game runs if I switch windows ID user, but I then don't have my save files as they are local to the user. 

  • Omg so I just Was typing up a storm on tumblr to see if anyone can help and suddenly my screen turned white and Sims 4 FINALLY OPENED. I DIDNT DO ANYTHING between to fix it. Cause I was still getting that notification, suddenly it just opened. Idk y’all…it’s one of those weird things I think

    my game will appear on the task bar but i cant click on it or play it then it crashes and the same pop up shows up it has been so long when will this fix i did all of the "solved" answers don't work

    UPDATE: So I got to main menu and it seems like my sims are broken? It shows in the thumbnail of my last game my sim has that patchy ?? Mark as if the cc they have on is broken now? And a weird orange skin tone I don’t know why…I’m gonna see if my game will reopen after i restart it again.

    please stop with * AUTOMATIC ANSWERS!! and fix your godman game!: this is not what we payed for, I haven't been able to play battlefield for 1 week due this BS!! thank god for DELTA FORCE! I hope all your customers LEAVE your company and move to DELTA FORCE at least their games working and its a ALPHA!!  .its a joke that you cant fix this damn issue...  I payed for my game, give me my money back if you cant let me play it please :.............

    SO i finally fixed it and its the DUMBEST BS ever,
    Get the ORIGIN APP first this one ONLY one that works  " https://origin.onl " once you get this install, it will install then say "  this app is no longer in use and you need ea app, then press download EA app, and now i have been able to play it, but yeah Delta Force is still better lol . 

  • I'm still having the "An Update is Required to Launch This Game. Visit Game Hub to Begin Your Update" issue. At this point I Have:

    • Updated the EA app twice
    • Repaired the App twice by running the installer program
    • Done the App recovery both inside the app and through my PC start area, twice each.
    • Restarted the App, at least 4 times
    • Forced the app and background activity closed with the Task Manager and reopened the app
    • Uninstalled the EA App and reinstalled it
    • Uninstalled the Sims 4 and reinstalled it twice
    • Repaired the Sims 4 twice
    • Tried to play in Offline Mode
    • Turned my internet completely off and tried to play
    • Run the Sims 4 as administrator, both with and without internet
    • Send Errors in the EA error reporter, twice I believe but only saved one ID
    • Updated my computer
    • Updated my drivers
    • Got a new pack and installed it to see if that would somehow work
    • Chatted with a EA Help Agent (who told me to post here)

    I think that's all I've done but at this point I've done so many things to try and play this game that I've spent likely over a thousand dollars on and played over 3,600 hours on, that I've probably missed something in this list that I have done. I'm honestly so exasperated at this point. I just want to play my game and I have no idea what else to do. The EA App weirdly says the last time I've played the game is "today" even though the Game Hub pop up happened before the game actually booted. So as a last ditch effort, here's all I have.

    • Game Experiencing Issue: Sims 4
    • Platform: PC
    • Windows Version: Windows 10 Pro, 22H2
    • EA App Version: 13.288.0.5801
    • Report ID: dc852683-6da4-43c9-908a-544070fa65a7

    Hope this somehow fixes stuff. Please help fix this I'm at such a loss.
