@jjohnston4life Do you any mods installed? Is your computer a pc or mac? Try to start game empty inventory (except bait) and see if you can fish with bait - just don't save when you quit and the game won't save.

- I have no mods and have never so much as used a cheat. Also a PC. I hate it because I was so close to leveling up!!! O.o It bugs me to no extent that there hasn't been an update to fix this after all these years.
This is still happening on every Sims 3 game I start. Same as above exactly. I have ambition, WA, seasons, night life, it happens whether I run with master controller/ overwatch mods or not. Normally fishing works fine when abroad on vacation in WA. Never use cheats. Always happens when doing the cheese/alley catfish/angelfish fishing to work up to deathfish. Normally already maxxed gardening and cooking by that point so quite frustrating in my midlife rush for ambrosia....
In the end I have added the fish spawners I needed using the buydebug and enablelotlocking cheats to a nearby lake to my Sims and deleted the ones I didn't use.... couldn't work out how to add fish spawners to ocean in edit town. However my "specialist" lake suits my needs... working for now...
@macbuck1977 Does this happen in Sunset Valley as well? You could save an existing sim with fishing skill to the bin to find out. Do you use other mods aside from MasterController and Overwatch, and does removing them help? What patch level does your game have? You can see it in the lower left corner of the launcher, among other places.
I've never seen this problem myself, so I'm curious.
