@Blackbird90Well if it rains he may have a chance, rain does a good job of leveling the field. But I think it'll be exploratory for the first few races with the package. Would love to see the underfloor and how it differs to the complex Red Bull and even the Astons. I wonder what Fallows has taken from Newey🤓

As we were talking about size and weight of the F1 cars, there's hope from 2026 they can start bringing the weight down; https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/single-seaters/f1/why-are-f1-cars-so-big/

@Blackbird90 That’s a bold prediction. I think its make or break the entire season because ferrari aren’t going to be close and aston martin probably wont get much closer

    @TotosHeadphones thanks for the article.
It'd be nice to see reduction in chassis length and car weight, to get them more nimble.
I like Formula E because there is lot of racing and you never know how it turns out. Even Monaco race was fun, seeing cars overtaking each other at unusual places.

@TotosHeadphones Like rain leveled the field last year in Imola? Haha

I know people always say so but rain nowadays (not talking about the 90s or earlier) is actually not an equalizer at all.. It increases the mistake rate so flawless drivers can get the maximum out but today the cars are way easier to drive compared to 90s or 80s turbo engines, so the cars still end up the defining factor, got a car struggling to get temps in the tyres (McLaren)? You will hate the rain lol..

@Blackbird90 Going to go out on a limb here and say the Red Bulls may struggle if it rains, at least for qualifying, due to them taking longer to warm up the tyres than the other cars. It's maybe one of the reasons why other cars seem closer in qualifying but then Red Bulls scamper off in the race when the tyres are warmed.

Moreover, the rain exposes the car's weak spots as the downforce becomes a greater decisive factor in the rain. The teams like Williams are going to cry a river.

I personally would like the qualy to stay dry but sprinkles of rain in the race I welcome.

  • @ScarDuck14 I'm afraid that is exactly what's going to happen. History repeats itself. I dare to say RB's dominance may follow until 2026. Hope not but...

Probably the rain is the only chance to stop RB this season. If we would have rain at every race it would be a very entertaining season 🙂 If we don't have big and very good upgrades from AM, Mercedes and Ferrari, the rain is the only thing that can save us 🙂

While this is true its not the whole story.. Mechanical grip is at least equally important in the rain which RB are missing a little + when the weather forcast is not 100% clear lower downforce/backmarker teams might go for more downforce resulting in unexpected results like WIlliams did in 2021 Spa qualifying, they can risk more so if its not clear cut with the weather.. Buut i dont think RB will struggle no matter what way around... And Merc were never the strongest around Imola so dont know if bringing their upgrade there might lead to wrong conclusions..

Didn't expect the piece to get so opinionated at the end, but quite liked it. Wished they had gone even deeper though. Mention his chafing with Prost, for starters. Or how his appointment as CEO was controversial for some.

@mariohomohHaha, it was quite opinionated! I think it was ok to share that opinion for a source that is normally quite impartial and mostly raises good talking points.

It was definitely and interesting route of action from the CEO. If it was a rallying call, then it was really poor. I'm always dismayed with how some people get to lead teams and be so far off the mark in motivation and constructive criticism.

Interesting news coming out of Alpha Tauri regarding De Vries and being under pressure. If he carries on the poor form he'll likely be replaced by Liam Lawson, not Danny Ricc as everyone seems to be suggesting. In terms of De Vries, I think many had high hopes for him after hisdebut last year. But maybe it was overlooked that the Williams would always likely to go well at Monza, so maybe his performance was overinflated. I think I even bought into it. But I remember in the off season, one of a quests on a podcast I listen to mentioned that they got on a flight with De Vries after the race and he said that he was essentially really lucky in the race as he kept his position due to the safety car. If the race wasn't neutralised as it was, he was on course for a brake failure. I hope he improves although the car looks fairly poor. I'm pleased that Tsunoda has stepped up, got high hopes for him

I was thinking about "what is going on with De Vries?!" yesterday on São Paulo's infinite rush hour traffic. And I agree with Williams better performance on tracks where the straights are more important - they did good in Spa last year too.

But Monza isn't the hardest track to master so maybe these 2 factor summed to his highlighted performance there, right? I remember the same (Monza not being hard to master) being said about Ricciardo once he had won there but still hadn't got any other relevant result in McLaren

@dancrodrigues It is easier to master however you have to be super consistent on tracks like Monza as any slight mistake punishes you.

@dancrodrigues ofcourse. I’m just saying due to his lack of experience it would be expected that he didn’t nail every corner etc etc over the course of the race. So was impressive
  • @ScarDuck14 Sure sure. I still think that, had he done his first race in Hungaroring or Singapore, the outcome would be less impressive.

Not taking the merit from him, he did great by getting used quickly to a F1 car - he was racing in Fe which is another world.
But to me the conditions were ideal: replacing the stronger driver of the team, being compared to an overall miserable driver, quick adaptation and an easier track to handle.

However it doens't seem so but I'm rooting for him - I like the dude since F2 and some fresh blood is always welcome.

@TotosHeadphones Nyck is likeable but since 2021 I've been of the opinion that it's mostly Toto wanting to make him happen haha

Again, I like him. Good professional driver. Not enough for a F1 seat though, kinda like Antonio Italian Jesus Giovinazzi. Hope he goes on to have a good career on endurance races and the like.

Ricciardo will probably step in as a reserve driver for Red Bull and Alpha Tauri alike, but if de Vries loses the position for good that seat is going for an academy driver 👍
