As an older player my advice is get a PS3 and a copy of Madden 2005 it was the best one they made.

To your question about running the ball more in simulated games, tough to do.  The best way to do it (and this probably isn't what you want) is to make a custom playbook and rate your best 10 runs very high on your gameplan.  Load the game like you were going to play it with your custom book and then simulate.  It seems to follow your plan better that way than expecting the AI to do it when just using scheme and playbook.

I hope it works, EA has ruined Madden for me putting all emphasis into Madden Ultimate Team and trying to take a sports simulation and make it a pay to play app.
