Re: Non-gameplay changes?

Matchmaking in drop in doesn't seem to follow though...I can search and get popped into a room with 2 per side.  I know that the most we might get in that room is 3v3, but usually 2v2.  For some reason, no one else ever joins.  I can bail out of that room, search again, and get another 2v2 room that doesn't get anyone else...but I can bail out of that room, search, and get a new room with 5 or 4 per side, which can fill up.  There's definitely something off with the matchmaking...it's been this way ever since drop in went outdoor and the lobbies disappeared.

Drop-ins are a whole different issue. Personally, they're way too toxic for me to even enjoy. I would love to see changes made to reduce that toxicity, but that's a whole different conversation. I'd rather wait for my club to be on than play drop-ins. I imagine there are many others with that mindset as well. So, I can see how it would take 45 minutes to find a match since people keep backing out of the lobby. If drop-ins are your main mode for WoC, it's understandable how frustrating that would be.

  • With the drop-in being toxic for 6's I found when OTP/Lobbies were a thing it wasn't as bad as many think. We had like 2 trolls on both PS3/Xbox 360 back then. With current matchmaking I find I run into them more often than not. The 6's population was huge but many decided to stay away from new gen since lobbies were removed. This drove a person that used to play normal back then to become the biggest troll on PSN... Much of them had families/jobs but now since we can't get quick pickup games like we used to they don't have time to play club or use discord to gather people. Pretty much why club disbanded as we work different schedules. When lobbies were around or we even had the chance to select jerseys and play in an indoor area aside from outside with 2 bland hoodies for 6's the population was better. Yeah text chat was out of hand but doesn't need to be there... The 6's casual community is leaving the series as I'm part of that area since club and banana leagues don't work due to IRL Especially when I work 12pm to 11pm or longer 5 days a week.

Totally agree with you there, there's something off with the matchmaking (drop-in). Been like that for 2-3 years now. Me and a friend make fun of it all the time because well, it bug out all the time every night.

The exemple you said with the 2vs2 or 2vs3 happens every now and then, even at peak hours. It's like all the position are ''locked'' and nobody else can join that room, no matter what...until one person leave the lobby, then boom it instantly fill up entirely. Like that one person was making a blockade that lifted once he left lol. weird lobby tendencies.

It happen in bigger room too, sometimes just in one position, it's even more obvious when that position is a winger, which almost instantly fill up all the time normally, but when the room is full and that one position is left empty for the entire 2 minutes at midnight a saturday night, you know something is wrong with the lobby. Position is again, kind of locked and will stay empty for the remaining time....or if  someone leave then maybe all of a sudden it will fill up again.

This also happen a lot if there's only one goalie in the room...where the matchmaking seem to try to hold both side at 5vs5 (5 skaters vs 4 skaters and a goalie). And will hold to this until another goalie join or when there's 10 or less secondes to go before the game launch. It happens so much that we can predict it now a day.

Hell, there's even situation where a room is set 5vs5 skaters and for whatever reason one side completly leave (maybe friends with bad ping or they feel insecure and afraid to lose CR lol) and literally for all the time remaining, nobody join...not one person...leaving us at 5vs0 for over a minute waiting and nothing happen.

I would say that I back out of ''at least'' 4-5 lobbies every night I'm on because they glitch out....so there's definitly something not alright with it.

  • @EA_Aljo, is there something in 24 that permits VS/coop online with your own settings/rosters ? Or that’s still a no go ?

    Bump !

    Thanks !

@PernellKarl027 Toxicity isn't really a problem when it comes to club. Sure you get some teams who just go around racking up 100+ PMs in a game for fun... or the classic of winning a game late and flip the puck over the glass and press pause for them to wait an extra 30 seconds.

There are no glitch goals. Just highly programmed shots and if people allow it to happen over and over it's on them to get better.

Playing with my friends is always a great time win or lose and 90% of the time we aren't even talking about the game.

I still can’t figure out how you "online" guys do it ? lol ! On top of dedicated presets, you have to deal with all of this. The toxicity, the glitch goals spammers, the trolls and everything else… I would go nuts in a hurry 😆

The toxicity, even in drop-ins it's not as huge as claimed. A lot of poeples confuse some average players with trolls....when in reality, they actually do try their best lol They just don't have any sense of hockey or vision. I would say that I see maybe one troll every 6-7 games or so which isnt too bad. The one that can really screw up games are troll goalies....thoses are the one I see the most.

The glitch goals are neither that bad if you defend properly, just don't allow it to happens.

The dedicated preset...you mean players build? You can play quite around the stats to make it fit what you desire.

Nothing like online games with 11 other poeples, so much more entertaining than offline mode, for the good or the bad :P

Sorry, I think I wasn’t clear enough, I mean the sliders and the settings, not player builds. Like the question I asked to Aljo, that would make me go online in a heartbeat…

I hear you about the "online" feeling, trust me… I loved playing Warzone with my brothers and friends, the cooperation, the laugh, the cries, the overall competitiveness, all good. But having to deal with Metas, cheaters, hackers, kids trolling, the toxic environment and all, was taking a toll on me without me even really realizing it…

The day way I quit warzone, was the best day of my life. I feel way more calm and at peace with myself. I will never go back 😉

I don't have any details on this, but I assume that's a no since everyone needs to play with the same settings and rosters to keep it fair.

    @EA_Aljo

Thanks for responding ! If I wanna play a VS match with my brother or friend, they will be on the same settings/sliders/Roster as me, how can this not be fair ?

We are in 2023, how can this not be an option still ? I can play on the couch against my brother when he’s at my house, why can’t I play against him when he’s on his couch ???

I was talking about Online Versus against random opponents. I really don't know if unranked matches with custom rosters is going to be supported for Online Versus in NHL 24. Again, I cannot answer any questions whatsoever about anything that has not been announced yet.

Oh sorry, I get it, I wasnt sure what you meant by dedicated presets :P

Of course if you take Warzone as an exemple of toxicity, you're at the top of the top lol Give it a shot one day in chel, it's not half as bad as any CoD game ever, bring a friend or two with you to ease the negativity effect. The cooperation is the best part. Once you get the hang of it and start recognizing some faces that play with or agaisnt you, it only get funnier.
And you can scratch right away cheaters and hackers. No PC version!

Nonetheless I understand your feeling, it's not for everyone, it can get intense sometimes.

    Cheers!

I would really like to go to club DR right from the main menu. I would also like crashes to throw you back in the lobby you were in. I would also like games that don't start because players left to put you BACK in the lobby with the people you were playing with in drops. Wish some more QOL changes came for 23.

Oh yes! You probably mean dressing room, the lobby is where you match up with other players. I would totally love it if when you back out of a lobby or if it crash you get send back in the dressing room instead of the chel main menu. Hate it if 3-4 lobbies in a row fail to fill up and everytime you gotta make up a new dressing room again and again + inviting your friends, stupidly annoying.

It was particularly irritating this year if me (xbox) had a few good playstation teammates and we were forced to go separate ways when ever the lobby was failing.
