What exactly are you looking for to round out your team? What would you do differently with the events in a way that's still fair for everyone?

At this point, another 50k coins and 4 more Gold Collectibles are what I'm going after... once I get those, I'll re-evaluate if there's some other minor synergy I can still fit in somehow. Once I get there, my team should probably be a 91 OVR, and I'll have 7 active synergies, 2 team-wide, and the only base card left will be my 87 Crosby. Not bad for completely F2P, IMO.
On your fairness question, I don't recall any event up til now that I couldn't get something for my event collectibles, even if I didn't have enough Gold Collectibles saved up to do something cool. I think a couple events let me trade event collectibles for Gold. Definitely previously, I could trade event collectibles for bad packs, at least. For this event, I would have made the trade-in for the two red packs cost 5 event collectibles (what you can get without going online, which also requires paying for PS+). Why would the two garbage packs cost 8, just like how you need all 8 to cash in for a 90 OVR player (I think... not looking at it right now)? Or, if that's somehow a deal of equivalent value, give me a way to make up the gap. Style Icons lets you cash in 15 gold players (I think) for an event collectible.
Aside from the Gold Collectible requirements to do cool things, this has been the only event, to me, where it's been obvious that this game is P2W. I'm also disappointed that when an event shows up as a Sunset that you can't still do everything you used to be able to do... a couple Team of the Year cards would look real nice on my squad. Those event collectibles were an absolute pain in the * to get, but I got them, and still couldn't afford to do anything good, because no Gold, at the time.
