Re: Origin keeps crashing and won't run Sims 4

Hello @UniversalGirlX3,

I am sorry to hear that you have been having issues with Origin.

Could you please try the following:

  1. Manually uninstall Origin
  2. Do a Clean Boot
  3. Download a fresh Origin setup file and when starting the installation, make sure to run it as Administrator
  4. Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin
  5. Try playing the game again

If the issue remains, could you please post your DxDiag? To post the DxDiag select the 'Choose File' button below the post box and attach your DxDiag text file.

Let us know how you get on.

    Hello @UniversalGirlX3,

    Thank you for the Dxdiag.

Could you please check if there are more recent drivers for your graphics card and if there are install them? You current drivers are from 2015 and may be causing issues with Origin.

If your card does not have drivers that are a little bit more recent, you may need to use the legacy version of Origin:

    • Download our old Origin client via https://www.dm.origin.com/download/legacy
    • Run the installer in Vista or XP SP2 compatibility mode (right-click installer -> Properties -> Compatibility)
    • Note that Store and Social functions are not available on this Origin version. Any purchases can still be made via the webstore on another device

Let us know how you get on.

I tried both of the suggestions you gave to me, and unfortunately, neither seemed to work... Might you have any other suggestions as to what I may be able to do?

    Hello @UniversalGirlX3,

What exactly happens when you try to install/run the legacy client? Does Origin still crash or do you get some kind of an error?

    Thanks,

    - Kristi

I don't get an error, it simply crashes and re-opens moments later. This only happens when I attempt to play Sims 4. My Sims 2 appears to work fine. But when I click to play Sims 4 in Origin, it appears to load but never opens. When I click on my Sims 4 shortcut, that's when the Origin application crashes.

I also notice that when I look over my game play, it says that my game was last played the day I try opening it. Like, it says that my game was last played TODAY, however that clearly would not be the case seeing as it never opens when I click on it. It asks for additional permissions, which I allow, but it never opens. I don't know if this helps at all, but it's something I have recently noticed.

Did you ever get a fix for this? This keeps happening to me also.

Do you have cc/mods? This happened to me as well and I had to take out the most recent downloads, and I had downloaded some cc that caused this to happen

I tried the link to origin's site and once I uninstalled the other version and fresh installed from the website it ran Sims no trouble

This has also happened to me except I play Sims 4 on a Mac computer. I finally decided that it was probably some issue with my mods/cc, so I deleted everything (except the resource file) in my mods folder. However, this did not solve the problem and I continue to not be able to open origin. Any ideas?

  • Lisen Linda, Origin is *, plain and simple. I want to play my sims 4 game and can't cause Origin keeps * crashing cause it has no internet access and it does on my computer,. Fix origin or make it so the game can at least be played offline!!!!!
