Can't receive friend request from Switch child account to my Xbox one X account.

What should be happening instead? Should be able to accept a friend request from my son's switch account
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know but will provide as much information as I can.
My son wants to play Apex with me. I want to play on my Xbox one x and he will play on the switch. He has a child EA account "turtlebearz" linked to one of my emails that is linked to his nintendo switch ID mj.micahg.
The problem, or bug, is that I am unable to see the incoming friend request sent from the child Switch account. I tried sending him one, but his switch nickname is "Jr" and that is very common and am not sure which one will be him in the search field.
To clarify, on the Switch we search for my xbox gamertag "KI KEATON" and select "Send friend Request" but nothing shows up on my screen on the xbox in the lobby.
I have tried resetting the game on my end and his end, and contacted support about the issue. They told me to submit this as a bug report.
