Shot through the ground or damage indicator was pointing wrong direction

What should be happening instead? I should see the character model in front of me?
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? not too sure, might've been a one time thing, or some people have said it may have been just the damage indicator malfunctioning and pointing the wrong way

I was running to go and revive a teammate, and it appears I was shot from the ground. Some people from reddit say it could be the damage indicator was pointing in the wrong direction of the enemy who was shooting me. It was a one time thing, hasn't occurred to me since, but still wanted either clarification or a fix.
