It looks decent, my problems are:
- Still only 4 man squads. This is battlefield. They should be 6.
- Squad Spawn. Again, this is battlefield. It should be Squad Leader spawn only by default.
- 10 second spawn times are too low, with squad spawn, and turn games into team death match where you are zerg rushing flags with no thought for safety, and kill PTFO, making medics & resupply useless.
- Vehicle supply stations? That's what Engineers are for.
My big worry is something completely outside the leak videos. It's the concern that EA will once again cater to air mains, allowing anti-grav little birds to fly around the map killing infantry with no counter. They need to:
- Have realistic, slow responding manoeuvring and not be able to do rolls & flips 5 meters off the ground.
- Have impact with another vehicle, the ground, trees or buildings be instant death.
- Not be made out of unobtanium and be able to take railguns, anti-air weapons, RPGs and main tank rounds without caring. If you hit a jet or helo with a tank cannon or RPG you deserve the instant kill.
- No auto repair.
- Little birds go back to what they were back in Desert Combat, fast transports without weaponry designed to insert small squads quickly.
- No magic flares/ECM that can block any guided attack.
- Counter-measures don't come back online one second after they run out, making it impossible to shoot down with anti-air weapons.
- Require ALL weaponry with the exception of jet cannons to be used by a gunner.
- Require ALL weaponry to be refilled only by returning to base.
- Require helos to land to rearm.
- Require helos to land to repair.
- Require helos to land to be able to cap flags.
- Ensure that air weaponry is sufficiently nerfed to avoid BF2 & 2042 style massacres where strafing jets, rocket pods and little birds can go 100-0 without trouble.
- That anti-air vehicles can shoot up, and their turrets rotate like they do IRL, which is FAST. It is an absolute joke in 2042 trying to use an AA vehicle, little birds will circle strafe above your head and you cannot hit them! Crazy.
- Potential option one: Institute a time limit for air attack vehicle usage by players in a round & Institute fuel limits for air vehicles, where an air vehicle that has been in the sky too long will "return to base" and send the pilot/gunner back to ground combat.
- Potential option two: Delay the addition of air vehicles into a match, and pick who gets to use them by going down the list of the best performing players to offer them to the choice to spawn in them.
- Potential option three: Make air vehicles into "call ins" where the best performing players can earn a short period of time where they control the weaponry of a call-in to allow them to help attacks, but not to overwhelm the entire game with air. This could mean a helo that strafs around the edge of the map that you get to gun for, or calling in an airstrike with a map to drop bombs, or controlling a JDAM style interface like in Battlefield 2 with the Attack Bomber Gunner weapon.
The lack of air balance, and catering to air mains is the #1 reason why 2042 did not capitalise on the "redo" after it's initial poor release.
Don't make Battlefield into Ace Combat.
If air mains want to fight air battles, there are a million flight sims for it.
There's only a handful of Battlefield type games.
