I'm also only an average player but I took McKay and hook behind campers, I played some more than 2h yesterday and the weekly was done.
I didn’t think of Dozer but yeah, I can see having fun with him for that ^^
And as someone mentioned before you have a week to solve this quest so enough time to get the 5 Melee kills.
Also don’t hard force yourself into it, it will get you frustrated too much. Take it as it come.

completed it by using shield, thank for remind. however, it is not a melee , exactly in term of text, EA and DICE should think any assignement more friendly and practical then just make an assignment that come from watching too much on video from any amazing on youtube , tweet etc, some ideas or assignments is out of reach from any causal , solo and most of players to accomplish
@c0ldsunOn my way to reaching tier 1 with Dozer before the zombies mode basically made it a free tier 1, I ran into maybe 5 other dozens..
Won 4 out of 5 fights, simply comes down to who gets the right angle first.
I used Dozer for the first time to try this, and honestly I don't think it's easier. For me it was just easier to camp on a high marker by a flag, wait for a cocky Sundance to fly in, and run behind her to do the knife kill. Since they flew in and saw no one, they assume no one is behind them and the person on flag is ahead of them...every time...it was weird how easy it was to get the knife kills that way.
I don't call this camping this is tactical waiting and for this you need a high skill in patience ^^
