The mission is to please investors in the short term.
There is no need for them to care about long term because their job will be the same whether it is a games studio or a burgers franchise. If the ship sinks they will hop to the next job opening for a manager for a publicly traded enterprise.

It is up to the payers to hold on their wallets and give them the motivation to make changes in their model.
