Re: Address the Portal XP Inconsistences! There's modified servers with FULL XP?

@S3SSioN_SoL wrote:

I saw and played on a server with FULL XP that had modified game rules such as disabling AIM ASSIST and increased vehicle spawn delays among other Modifiers. On top of this, the game also had restrictions but to my knowledge, restrictions have no effect on XP but Modifiers do. This server however still had FULL XP? I checked in the Portal editor if disabling AIM ASSIST would allow FULL XP and it did not. So there's definitely a bug which hosts are abusing to bypass the XP rules. Please address this issue ASAP!

The server also had faster movement but it was not showing in the list of modifiers?

Here I am, just wanting to use Default AI in a fully vanilla Portal server and there's people who are able to bypass the Portal XP rules to suit their whim.

Furthermore, in my opinion, the DICE official Portal experiences i.e "Total Rush" and "Total Conquest" should be Full XP but they are not.

Hey!

Can clarify a few points:

  • Modifiers and Restrictions do not impact XP / Progression. Only AI and the Rules Editor cause you to become capped.
    • Play around with Modifiers, Restrictions, Map rotation etc as much as you like. You'll continue to receive full XP / Progression.
  • Official and Featured Experiences always provide full XP / Progression

One thing to keep an eye on is that there is a bug in the Web Builder UI which in some instances displays the wrong indication for what type of XP / Progression you are getting; e.g. you only changed Modifiers but it tells you XP is impacted (while in reality, it isn't). This bug seems to be visible on the screenshots shared in this thread.

If you notice this happening to you for making specific changes, please do let us know so we can resolve that if necessary.

@Straatford87 Thanks for clarifying the inconsistency. The "Total Rush" and "Total Conquest" experiences do not offer FULL XP and I believe they do not show up in the server browser when hosted either. I hope this is looked into as they seem to be the only way to host a Portal server that may allow Bots with Full XP.

Any consideration of removing restrictions while bots are in play? Perhaps setting it to intermediate/advanced bots?

Many people leave servers or never join servers that are low in population. Playing against bots as server fills will keep activity up. Restricting xp will keep players away as well.

@Straatford87 Your post is now out of date or just wrong.
If you adjust ANY setting in a portal server, your progression is capped.
The only thing you can change without restricting your progression is the map rotation.

That's only is you use AI if I read the patch notes correctly. No AI or rules editor changes still give full XP.

@MaydaX no, I tried a few things out. If you adjust bullet velocity only, for example, it restricts progress.

Or we’re both right and the portal builder is incredibly inconsistent/ broken.

I tried setting PROJECTILE SPEED MULTIPLIER, HEADSHOT DAMAGE MULTIPLIER, GLOBAL DAMAGE MULTIPLIER and BODY SHOT DAMAGE MULTIPLIER to max and it still classified the server as full xp (with no AI or rules editor changes).

    See attachments:

    same server.

    PVP AI is on.

restricted progression after adjusting ONLY bullet velocity.

moderate progression if I don’t adjust anything.

This shows that adjusting just velocity alone does alter progression.

DICE did say if you touch anything other than the map rotation with AI on it's no longer full xp.

I've noticed if you change any setting but change it back to default when using AI the server is not listed as full xp. Same goes if I come back to portal later and open the same unmodified experience it shows as moderate xp.

Since I don't have battle pass I can't see what it shows as in the browser since it's shutdown when I leave it.

@MaydaX Yeah, the portal builder doesn’t seem to update the progression in real-time.
You have to go out, then go back in and it will show you the true progress status.

"Custom Portal experiences that have PvP AI (but not PvE) and no other change than to the map list will have Ribbons XP enabled, Mastery Progression up to Tier 12 and Weekly Missions enabled instead of the usual Restricted XP."

Now that I read the patch notes again it may be working as designed. Limiting "Mastery Progression up to Tier 12" while enabling ribbons and weekly missions could be classified as Moderate XP. It's just the builder that isn't showing it correctly.

  • @MaydaX for me doesn't appear in any place as normal xp, even if i kill bots it counts xp for kill but nothing else

@Straatford87 So what do you and Dice have against AI? You could enable AI on default like you do with COOP/SOLO AOW so that we could set up different maps and factions like BF2042 on WW2 maps etc. The AI are pretty good on Default better than a lot of players. however, they are much more courteous and let you have the vehicle whenever you want. This is why I like them . Portal should allow better options with AI. Its not like if I get a medal Killing AI is somehow gonna give me more money or status as a human player than someone who only plays with People. This is to me so trivial and AI should be the future in gaming as it helps populate games that lose the player base and I believe long term sales would be better if a solo/coop player knew that a game supported the whole games experience with AI and not dependent on finding a populated server. Those players would pick up the game after the hype and bugs have been Ironed out. I notice that games that are good will gain new sales years after the release especially if they support AI.

@Straatford87 why dont just enable XP FOR ALL EXPERIENCES, PEOPLE PAID TO PLAY THE WAY THEY WANT, THATS PORTAL, LET PEOPLE PLAY WITH ALL FEATURES, WE PAID FOR COMPLETE EXPERIENCE NO TO BE RESTRICTED!!!!
