Re: Ammo types

@ninjapenquinuk Here's the thing though, right now what i mentioned above *is* what the system is, unless we see a dramatic overhaul by the beta (which in fairness isn't impossible by any stretch).

I'd also prefer just being able to swap something like hot loads or AP/slap rounds as that makes more "logical" sense, but that's not the system as it stands now, it's literally heavy/medium/light (some guns not having access to all types) with profiles similar to the old 7.62 v 5.56 profiles and mag counts (light is anyone's guess on a shoulder weapon, but let's say anything from 9mm to 4.8) we saw in BF 3/4.

If we do a little suspension of disbelief about someone dragging around whole barrel/chamber/magwell/recoil buffer kits as well as the comical amount of extra mags to pull this off, i don't hate the idea in a videogame convenience sense, but i'd be a lot more concerned if the different types of ammo didn't radically change recoil profiles for instance.

Being snobbish i'd rather keep the old "pick your weapon for the task at hand" system, but since i do rather like the hotswap barrel/attachment/optics option as it doesn't require you to die just to have an appropriate tool (within reason and weapon type), especially regarding optics, I'm not against the idea as a whole, but like the rest here a little hazy on the actual implementation.

Guess we'll have wait and see with the beta unless Dice decides to release some more substantial info, was hoping someone had done some digging on this more than what i'd seen myself.

@Fringerunner I mean if how you described it, is how it works then it's a really bad decision. It's just unwanted gimmick after gimmick. People act as if they are BF gods and never die. If you had one life, then I could go along with it, but nearly everyone dies multiple times in a match, so has multiple chances to change to a more suitable kit for a given situation. And the whole point is you aren't meant to be some Uber soldier who can do everything. There should be a good mix of 'classes' in a squad or team to deal with a given situation, but 2042 is going away from that, to everyone can do everything

@ninjapenquinuk Not disagreeing with you so that's clear, just pointing out what the new system does add that's somewhat neat, nothing that couldn't be achieved with variable optics on more things than sniper rifles/DMRs, but i do like the option to go from a 4-6x to a red dot on ARs since they generally don't have variable optics, as well as throwing on a can or such if needed.

That said, the variable ammo makes a lot less sense outside of being able to throw in an AP round mag like i said before, i preferred (as you said in slightly different terms) swapping the base tool.

But as it stands now, you'll have a compass wheel menu where you swap ammo types, optics, barrel/attachments, and grips on the fly.
(again, what's been shown might not be what we see in the beta, based on some of the specialist gameplay shown the last couple of days they've toned down the RoF and recoil a little on some guns at least)

Again, if it was mag types rather than ammo that changes calibers i would be fine with it, something like a drum mag (which is a thing ingame already) vs normal 30/5.56 or 20/7.62, with the latter being a faster reload for instance, or clipped mags so you could do two reloads in a relatively short time, etc etc.

Course, this was the whole reason for the OP to begin with, to see what others thought of it or had ideas other than the "heavy/medium/light/AP" system.
I'm firmly in the swap guns for different calibers but by all means have different mag *types* for what it's worth, but that's not what's been shown so far.
