There's support for joysticks even in battlefield 4. The problem is that the inputs for the game are limited, -snip-. You can plug a joystick in and the game will recognize that as a "controller", but if it has a separate throttle control via USB, the game will not detect it. I'm hoping 2042 inputs are not limited, or else I'm gonna have to break the game.
