It depends a lot on the context.
It is a different thing to have a nightbird in a rush map on just one side without any AA or airborne vehicles on the other team and a different thing in a mode with a balanced access to the vehicles.

Personally I believe that this is part of a general problem with BF games in a modern setting  and how AA-ing depends largely on lock on methods instead of skillshots (like the flak cannons)
