Re: CPU upgrade dilemma for BF2042

I have read somewhere that the way games are coded they never use more than 8 cores / do not make use of the extra cores very well. So a 12 / 16 /++ core makes no extra benefit. I jumped from a 3800x cpu to a 5800x 3d cpu and holy cow what a jump. Was on fence like you - should I go for 16 core. But since I only game and read all the reviews - it was easy.

Though one important thing - this cpu gets hot because of the way this thing is made with the 3d cache. You need solid cooling or else this hits the max limit and throttles down. 

I use thermal grizzy from kryonaut and a dark rock pro from be quiet and this keeps it on 70-80 max. Before I had 90 all the time.

Anyway I do recommend the 5800 x3d - no doubt !
