The game had indeed a peculiar layout for some functions at launch (I am myself on PS4 and PS5).

As you, I am an old fan of BF games and therefore also used a functionality certainly available for the PlayStation gamers.

And for what I know, then that is also available for both Xbox and PC platforms.

The function you have in the game's advanced setup is to remap some of your button functions,

I have dome that with success to match exact the same button functions/layout on my controller as I also have in the old BF4 game.  So thereby its also very easy and intuitive when switching to play between the different BF games I have.

I cannot recall I button re-mappings I have done specific for the BF2042 to match classic BF4 controller layout, but certainly the one about throwing the handgrenade on a single button push was one.  And also the ones related to vehicle controls and helicopter controls had to be changed to match the classic BF4 layouts. 

I posted an article about that subject here around the time of game launch, but sure you can find many more on this subject today.  Also several YouTubers have probably by now made some good instructables about this subject.
