@Velcro_SnickersI honestly think this is why we haven't had a solid answer from dice I reckon its a microsoft thing. Which if It is I'm not optimistic at all. For all the good microsoft Are doing at the minute the forced crossplay is really starting to p*ss me off. its like it with a few games now its a joke.
- @rizzo777 I still see no reason why Microsoft should force EA Dice to implement something to their own disadvantage, and does not do it with other studios and games. That makes no sense at all.
And yes, it's also not yet in Halo Infinite, but this is another story although it looks similar. But don't forget the toggle exists for MCC and Infinite Multiplayer is still a Beta! @FrEaKCH82 Windows and Xbox are both Microsoft platforms, and they're constantly taking steps to make those two platforms fully integrated with each other.
Look at Game Pass Ultimate. You used to have to subscribe to two different subscriptions in order to get Game Pass on PC and Xbox, now it's all under one subscription.
Then there's the Xbox app for Windows. That app essentially turns your PC into an Xbox. It allows you to play Game Pass Ultimate titles, interact with friends on Xbox, etc.
Every recent Microsoft "exclusive" has been released on both Xbox and PC, and unless I'm mistaken, none of them have had the option to disable crossplay. MCC was already released on consoles way before it was released on PC.
As I've said before, PS5 hasn't had a single game with forced crossplay. The only time it happens is on Xbox, and sometimes PC.
As for why they think this is a good idea when it puts Xbox at a clear disadvantage? Who the hell knows, all I know is it definitely looks like Microsoft wants it to happen.- @Velcro_Snickers Sooo, what's then the story with Back 4 Blood?
I know the story with PC games integrated with Xbox Live (where you need an Xbox account) , which is not the case here with BF but with Halo Infinite and also Forza. @FrEaKCH82 Back 4 Blood is being developed by an independent studio with an independent publisher, and while 2042 is as well, Microsoft and EA have a partnership that says Xbox is the "official console of Battlefield 2042," their words, not mine.
And you kind of missed the point of my post there.
This does not happen on PS5. It only ever happens when Microsoft is in the picture.
- @Velcro_Snickers
>It only ever happens when Microsoft is in the picture.
Because there is no such system setting on Playstation. So it has to be in-game. - @FrEaKCH82 Dude, you can't really think THAT is the reason.
They not only intentionally removed the working in-game toggle we had in beta, but removed the notice PS5 and PC still get when they first launch the game specifically asking them if they want to disable it.
Why would they purposefully make it more complicated AND remove any notice of crossplay or the ability to disable it when they had a perfectly working method of doing so in the beta?
That reason wouldn't make sense even if it was all DICE's decision and Microsoft had nothing to do with it. @Velcro_Snickersbecause if you force crossplay on XsX, which has a lower install base than both PC and PS5, you are sure that Xbox players will find easily a match. And this is more important for Dice as those players won't use xbox dedicated servers, possibly with AI, which will cost more than having those players using the same servers than anyone else... If people are not finding xbox only servers, i'm pretty sure it's not because there's not enough players with crossplay off, but simply because there's no server up and running for your region.
On the other hand MS doesn't care if you have crossplay on or off, you already gave them your money for the game and the xbox Live subscription. They have nothing to gain or lose about it. Only Dice/EA have something to lose : servers are expensive, and having some servers running for just a tiny fraction of their customers, everywhere in the world, isn't good business. It's much better for them to mutualize server cost with other platforms.
@xXGugusseXx That explanation doesn't work because, I'll say it for the 500th time, we've seen this exact situation in every single recent Microsoft title made in the last 3-4 years, and several 3rd party titles. Not just EA. Not just Battlefield.
And I'm in North America, the region where, last I looked, the Xbox Series X has at the very least kept pace with PS5, if not outsold it. Somehow I don't think the issue is lack of servers in NA.Edit: To add to that; the whole "tiny fraction of players" issue is only even an issue because of this change. This wasn't a problem in the beta when Xbox could disable it like the other two platforms.
- @Velcro_Snickers @Velcro_Snickers Which MS titles had no crossplay off option in-game in the last 3/4 years ? Infinite is the only one, and still you can have input based MM for ranked as an in-game option (which is something that BF doesn't even offer). COD and Destiny 2 are the others that come to mind with the same system than BF. Don't think it's a problem for Destiny as this is a TPS and PvP isn't the most used game mode, and for COD they face the exact same backlash than Dice.
Once again, system wide crossplay option is the easy solution if you want to force crossplay on, it's also only available on xbox and not PS (pretty sure we would see the exact same thing if PS had it). And this solution only benefits the studio who's handling servers cost by forcing people on the same servers than everyone else.
The fact that you can't find players in the US isn't a problem about player numbers. I'm in the EU, XsX is far behind PS here, and still can find games with 0 waiting time (AOW only, Portal and HZ are empty), looks like we have servers while the amount of XsX players with crossplay off is certainly fairly smaller than the US. So if you don't find any game, it's because there's no server in your region, not because there's not enough players while you would just need an handful of players to start a match with AI.
Dice had multiple solutions to make it fair : input based MM, console only crossplay option or crossplay option to turn it off in-game. They chose the worse of them all : system wide option. @Velcro_Snickers Because EA Dice is still silent on this topic, we can only guess and assume why they removed the in-game toggle from the Beta. Maybe they found a bug during the Beta weekend and had no dev resource and time to investigate, thus just removed it? Maybe it's because of the partnership with Microsoft and a different interpretation of the Xbox Live integration, maybe because of ABC... we can only speculate.
But, we know for sure that recent games provide an in-game experience / toggle to disable cross-play. That's a hard fact! And those games integrate with the Xbox Live service, are available in the Xbox Game Pass, etc.
- HillbillyJohn4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@FrEaKCH82 I don't get the silence, we paid for the game and at the very least we deserve answers.
1) Microsoft titles? Sea of Thieves, Gears of War, Forza, and now Halo, so yeah, every single Microsoft title with multiplayer. The input based MM in Infinite for 2 man squads in ranked only is a joke, it's like they're acknowledging that crossplay between PC and Xbox is an awful idea but saying "too bad deal with it" at the same time. You can't even say they're leaving out the in-game options since we can just disable it at the system level, because even that doesn't work for Infinite.
3rd party titles? Warzone, Apex, Fortnite, Destiny, and now of course Battlefield come to mind off the top of my head. Some of those have input based MM, yeah, but input based doesn't stop cheaters on PC from seeping into the console player pool via crossplay. As for what you said about Destiny, that's 100% an opinion and I can imagine a lot of people would disagree with it.
2) I'm sitting at the "waiting for players to join" screen, not the "searching for match" countdown on the main menu. I've literally sat at that screen, by myself, watching the same 1-2 players join and leave for 10-15 minutes until I'm kicked back to the main menu. I seriously doubt that if there were more people in queue that I would be seeing those same 1-2 players pop in and out for 10-15 minutes straight. I also doubt DICE has made it so that a handful of 8 or so players are allowed to take a server slot against 120 bots since we have solo/coop available for that exact purpose. That wouldn't make any sense and wouldn't make for a fun match at all. I think it's much more likely that a server is being reserved, but not enough players are filling it for the game to start. But I'm not going to sit here and speculate about how many servers they do or don't have active in each region, because only DICE knows that.
Having said that, even if EA is just being same old EA by trying to save as much money as possible, I'd say it's still fair to put the blame on Microsoft for having such an ineffective system of controlling crossplay, especially when you look at how PS5 is handling it. Why should we ever expect these publishers/developers, who are here to make money, to do any different when Microsoft has given them every excuse they need to screw us over?
Doesn't matter which way you flip it, whether it's through action or inaction, Microsoft is to blame for this garbage.
I'm going to back out of this little debate though, since it's getting off-topic. The last thing I want is for this thread to get locked and buried.
- HillbillyJohn4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Velcro_Snickers I have Gears of war and it has a cross play off button...that works.
- @HillbillyJohn It was removed from Gears 5.

@Velcro_SnickersYou're right, I haven't played in a while and last time did it was there.
Looks like the no crossplay on Xbox is picking up a little more steam, hopefully we can actually find matches/servers if this continues.

- @JIHADxJEEPER I wish they would just come out and say if were getting a console only crossplay or imput based crossplay. Seriously it can't be hard to tell that this is what most console players want. The silence is whats making me think it won't happen. If I wanted to play with pc players I'd get a pc the 100% should be a crossplay console only option I honestly won't buy until this happens.
- @Velcro_Snickers Sea of thieves has crossplay option in game. Gears had it but they removed because there wasn't enough players (but I think it's still there in ranked ?). Forza ?? I don't know anyone who plays Forza with m+kb, so of course it's always on and nobody cares because even PC players play Forza with a controller... Halo and Apex are input based. I agree with Destiny 2, there are certainly people that are exclusively playing PvP and would like to have it but never saw anyone complain about it (maybe because there's a proper aim assist ?). The only one currently with the same limitation than BF is in reality COD, which isn't the best example to follow...
And for the fact that you don't find players : do you really think that if I can find a match in EU, AKA Playstationland, with crossplay off, within seconds, with 0 AI players, always full (conquest and breakthrough) and whatever the time it is, you can't do the same in the US while the number of XsX is massively more important there than in my country ? I can't believe you are the only one with crossplay off in the US, can't believe you are less than 100, or even less than 1000 at any given time and that would be more than enough to find a server up and running IF this server exist.
But you are right, we are off topic even if it's related to the "why" we don't have it as it was in the beta. The most important is now "how" we can have it again or any other solution that are on the table to have a fair matchmaking against players. - @rizzo777 Agreed, just want some form of acknowledgment either way, greyed out menu seems like a bug but the lack of communication seems purposeful. Just want to know…
And I’d be fine with input based match making, it’s just seems it might be more difficult to implement for this game considering all the issue and that’s never been mentioned from DICE - HillbillyJohn4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@JIHADxJEEPER I've about given up hope, I feel like I wasted a $100 on this game.
- @HillbillyJohn & @rizzo777 agreed. Their silence on some of the bigger issues can be infuriating. I haven't opened the game since the day I bought it. The no keyboard mouse support killed it for me, I don't do social media so I never saw the post that it wasn't coming.
I know I keep posting this but playing warzone on my console with KB&M just feels right! its seamless and once you're playing you'd never realize you're not on a PC. I have Discord running on a old Fire tablet so I can chat with my PC squad without making them suffer through the in-game chat system.
right now I feel like the only thing I got for my BestBuy preorder Gold BF2042 is some stupid cardboard CD game case that BestBuy sent me as a preorder bonus.. WTF am I supposed to do with a game case for a digital game? I guess they just decided my house doesn't have enough clutter. - HillbillyJohn4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@MTFULemming I play previous Battlefield games with a controller on PC, but something is off with this title, don't know if it's high end monitors or what but I'm pretty much getting instakilled by PC players now while I'm playing on console.
Am amazed console guys can get any kills with this ridiculous bullet spread and absolutely abhorrent netcode!
- @HillbillyJohn I tried playing with the controller but I ended up getting knifed by AI bots.. yeah I'm that bad on a gamepad! that's why I spend my time complaining on a forum instead of playing the game I paid for.
Oh and because BestBuy does not refund digital purchases
