Re: Ingame VOIP working as intended?

@kregora You’ll find it defaults to Party when in the menus or loading, but defaults to Squad once in game. That’s been my experience anyways. I’ve also found the sound quality stinks, it’s very quiet even when maxed out on volume. Like you I also use discord to play with buddies, but also have voip on and it can get confusing with two buttons and you’ll repeat yourself a lot lol.

@ATFGunr My experience is, it defaults to party, whenever you are in a party. It might be different when you are on your own and didn't started a party, though.
Alone this inconsistency may explain why it took DICE so long to implement it.

So I figured out this behaviour only, because I enabled voice to text, and the when I speak i get text in yellow (default party chat color).

And yes the volume is very quiet, compared to external VOIP tools.

@kregora Next time you game, watch for when it changes from party to squad. It does it automatically. It makes it look like it’s a choice in the settings, but it still does party in the menus and squad in game.

I payed attention, and it behaves how I described.

    • I am not in a party
      • voip switches to squad channel when I join a game and squad
    • I am in a party
      • voip switches to party channel in the menu, and sticks to party chat when I join a game and squad

So the moment I am in a party, voip switches to party voice channel, and stays there unless I change it manually after I joined a match.

So since this is the same for everybody, and when I assume that party voice and squad voice channel are mutually exclusive this feature is a bug, and no way connecting people.

  • Probably not as intended but probably isn't going to be fixed either. If it were up to Dice Sweden, the game wouldn't have voice chat at all.

@Noodlesocks I always assumed, that voice chat was hard to implement for the crossplatform squads.
In BF4 squad voip was, how you engaged with other players, invited them to your team speak server, explained squad play, but this doesn't work in BF2042.
I still think, the design is for a battle royal, and the circumstances are so different from a team based game.

@kregora I respect the experience you’re having, and that it’s different than mine. We can’t really be that surprised that yet another thing is broke, especially when they shoe-horned it in after release. I play in a party every time I play, and it goes to squad chat when the game starts for me. So it could be a setting, I’ll try and look later, or you have a bug. The controls are not intuitive at all, and a bug is even more likely for this dev team. You could try reporting it?
