WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER LAUNCH

Launch is only the beginning.

We’re taking a new approach to live service with not only a commitment to new content, but a goal of enhancing the Battlefield experience through seasons that will continue to evolve the world of Battlefield 2042.

In our first year of live service, we will deliver four Seasons, with four Battle Passes, four new Specialists, and new locations along with more fresh content. We also intend to deliver updates to Battlefield Portal that will give players more ways to build and share new Battlefield experiences with the world.

That means for Season 1, you can expect a new Specialist, Battle Pass and Portal content, and maybe even some new sights to see as the story of Battlefield 2042 continues to unfold. Expect more details early next year.

During launch we’ll also kick off the Preseason with Weekly Missions and Rewards, Limited Time Modes, featured Creator Spotlights and experiences in Battlefield Portal, and more!

'Live Service' was never a factor in my purchase decision, but had I been swayed by the marketing above I don't think I'd feel cheated.  Disappointed they didn't offer more, but probably not cheated/mislead.

We have a couple data points now on what 'Live Service' means to DICE.  When DICE mentions Live Service on BF6 during the launch marketing I think we'll all know exactly what we can expect.

Yep that is about as vague as one could be to not be held accountable for anything in particular. The only thing that we didn't really get was more Portal content. Still have the same maps that it launched with and not much has changed there. I suppose if you want to bend it to be adding more rule sets/custom commands for mode-makers then they could consider that "content" for Portal.

But ultimately, I agree with the general premise of the thread, and has been stated ad-nauseum on these boards, reddit, youtube, etc that the game shipped with little content and very little new/fresh content was added in the 2 years that followed. I firmly believe a large portion of it was the development hell that the game was going through leading up to release, and instead of delaying by 6 months to Spring/Summer the following year, they rushed it to be November 2021. Obviously the pandemic and such didn't help things, but I bet that the change in direction from the somewhat obvious plans of a Battle Royale (or the entire game being focused around the pseudo extraction shooter Hazard Zone), that the pivot to make it more like a regular BF game required the "all hands on deck", not for content, but to fix the mess that existed prior to (and after) launch.

The only hope at this point is that they will have learned some lessons (lol) and built a true BF successor from the ground up of what (almost) everyone had hoped for at the beginning. Thus giving the time to plan and develop additional content/dlc/premium/whatever they want to call it prior to the launch of the game, instead of running around putting out fires like chickens with heads cut off.

If anything, I know to hold of purchasing anything that mentions live service for at least a year to be sure the game is finished.

Mee too, and, I will also hold off until I see how many maps there are going to be and how many they are actually going to add each season etc.

The amount of maps we have now two years since release should be an embarrassment for the whole development team.

Battlefield 4 was the best for maps in my opinion, there were absolutely loads of them and that's what kept the game from becoming / feeling stale and boring, which is exactly what BF2042 feels like now, even two years post launch.
