Re: Platform Dilemma

@HankBizzle You could be right. I do expect PC to have the largest playerbase, however as I mentioned, it could also have more... issues to deal with as well.

Don't know if there have been major changes to player bases over the recent year, as Playstation used to be the largest player base without comparison.  But true, I have not checked these in the last 6-9 months.

If you logon to the server browser on the 3 different platforms, you still see today that you have more servers available globally for PS then any alternative.  PC is next and Xbox the lowest.  But the console volume of Xbox and Playstation players combined would by far be the biggest.

Now we just need EA to enable the crossplay among consoles while filtering away the PCs.  Then you have a clear winner.  Especially if you prefer the more casual playstyle.  And getting rid of the system code PC cheaters is a very welcome additional reward.

@CyberDyme Yeah, not sure with recent titles myself, however I was pretty sure in BF4 that PC was the largest contingent…

So, I had already preordered the Gold PS5 version but now that I know cross platform progression is a thing I have also preordered the standard version for PC. Probably a waste of money but at least my platform dilemma is solved 😅

    Actually @carsono311 ,

Then the PS4 was the platform with most players active on it for the first many years of aka BF4.  It wasn't until the last few years here that more PS4 players appeared to drop off faster than the remaining PC players, and we started to observe days where PC then had more PC gamers on than PS4.

We had several stat websites all coherently showing the same, so think it is trustworthy.  'Funny' was however to see when BF4 suddenly started outliving the BF1 game, as we then had more active players on the BF4 versus the later BF1.  Think this was around when BFV had been launched.  And when BFV also started dropping off probably quicker than EA wanted to see, then suddenly the entire API support was pulled from the stat trackers...  And we lost viable source for fully automatically tracking the daily gamer populations across the platforms and across the BF games.

Dont know if we can still find a site doing the work to look it up individually and manually now these days?  But here is a link to an article describing the BF1 decline also 3 years back:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/battlefield-1-2018

"Battlefield 1's popularity has fallen among many competing shooters but the game maintains an active player base. According to Battlefield Tracker, the game secures tens of thousands of players daily during peak times. PlayStation 4 sees average peaks of 50,000 players, while Xbox One and PC see 30,000 and 20,000 respectively."

And you also have several of our discussions on this subject on Reddit, where we from time to time have done the work to pull the numbers:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/6r565f/bf1_bf1_bfh_and_bf4_player_base_compared/

I recall that I posted one such comparison like 18+ mths ago or so here on EA Answer HQ, comparing the 3 platforms PC, PS and XBOX and their respective weekly player population across the 3 most recent games BF4, BF1 and BFV.  But it appears that we do no longer have access to all past posting here anymore?  Maybe somebody out there have kept a copy or knows how to pull from archives?

@CyberDyme That is certainly interesting. I honestly did not know that the PC market was so underwhelming... that is surprising and disappointing really. Thanks for the info.

@CyberDyme Seems that, for BF at least, there is an inexorable shift from PC to Console. Were there any conclusions drawn from the trends? This is a topic that interests me, because it points to bigger trends in the gaming industry.
