Agreed, the game engine is basically what brought BF2042 to its knees...
First the patchy old Frost version kept causing substantial constraints for the BF2042 code team. Then they had to take a full year just to focus on engine upgrade. It was all rushed and much was still in shambles when they forced still to go ahead with the Nov 2021 release date for the game launch.
Yes, we god some special tornado effects out of it, but even the most basic levelutions we had in previous BF games are simply not there in current engine state. It is far from true Battlefield standards. Limited to no buildings damage with tanks/infantry explosives/airplanes... Limited to no player triggered levelutions of buildings or other mission critical and game strategy changing infrastructure!
Current used game engine core does simply not appear to support what would be expected from an up to date BF game.
E.g. BF4 has substantial more map contents, game mechanics and dynamics and levelutions than BF2042 has here now 9+ years later. And that is very disappointing.
