Stick to a class system please, and keep specialists bound to classes!
This system is what made Battlefield for the last two decades, it is the very foundation of the game!

2 - classic bf
2 - only put the classes, not the stupid super hero players. Everyone hates them.
2! Clearly old class system. This fits for a military shooter like bf. Not childish specialist hero crap
2.
The clear problems I can see with the current system:
- The specialists are lacklustre in their (barely) unique abilities. They are a part of a system that does not need to be here and feels like filler. It also strips the identity of the game from the Battlefield name tag.
- The attachment switching on the fly is not needed. Another filler feature. Even the sub-systems in this are pure filler. Launchers on my marksman rifle? No thanks, why would I take the time out to waste an attachment slot for a completely bizarre and rare scenario to occur? Get rid.
- The most important one: The specialist and class system removes the teamplay mindset which holds all good Battlefield games together. Why sit and fight it out with my squad when I can glide to another part of the map and leave them to escape. Why dedicate my time to have a kick-* tank match with my squad when every class now carries a launcher. It's easier to just bail and escape. The problem this creates is that no one wants to work as a team in an offensive or defensive manner. You're part of a team that doesn't play as a team. its a pure opportunist game where I have a lack of interest in getting a squad to Zone A, because what's the point? If I choose to be an engineer in BF3/4, I do so because there is a real purpose to do so. The same goes for the rest of the classes. In 2042, I only switch when I get bored. That is terrible game design.
2 any day.
The iconic 4 classes with a next gen spin. Classic gadgets with some new gadgets and perhaps a new class with next gen capabilities.
