Re: Will There Be Anything Like a Horse?

@cso7777and @TTZ_Dipsy, haha yes I remember lots of whining about the horse.

The cavalry was and is a tough foe in BF1. And on the final software update they gave the ability to drop a heal pack and autoheal both the horse and rider. That was like a gift from heaven to horse riders.  And it also made the auto healing, running horse extremely hard to take down.

And yet, cavalry is handily countered by those in the know. The key is keep their healing interrupted by hitting them repeatedly.  Mines, tripwires, AT rockets, tanks, sub machine guns, light machine guns, At grenades, good cover or rough terrain, and the ability to dodge sideways should all be on the menu.

@Forkbeard84 The problem is that these 'special classes' with high health are awful to play against for infantry (we already have vehicles/planes to think of) and they are hard for Dice to balance.

Vehicles has always been a problem for Dice, one good player in a vehicle/plane/chopper/horse can dominate too much, whether this will be better in BF2042, we will see.

And even though all things have counters, these counters are too often not used by the players (stupidity, what-ever) and the result is still the same, the game becomes awful to play or extremely unbalanced.
  • @cso7777Well ok we disagree. You are more infantry focused while I like infantry, horses, sentries and vehicles. I think your bias to infantry play is showing.

As I pointed out there are many good counters to the horse. And if people don't use counters out of stupidity then that's on them.

@Forkbeard84No doubt I am biased against infantry, but I accept that vehicles(/planes/choppers) are what makes BF-games different from everything else, and without them the game would be another experience (which I don't seek).

BF1 giving the best counters against horses to assault players, is already a fail in my book. Most cavalry units, fight against units having mid/long-range-weapons and Assault has none of those in BF1. Therefore cavalry feels "overpowered", because the classes that are killed the most by cavalry often has no counters against them (and cannot outrun them as well).

This problem is with other 'vehicles' as well, only one class can really counter them and if you don't want to play that class, you have no chance against them - other than seeking cover. Hoping that players will adjust their selection of class to a specific situation is not realistic (my experience from playing BF since BF3).

But BF2042 will have more freedom in selecting weapons/gadgets, this could perhaps end up being a good change for the game, and make us infantry player whine less about overpowered vehicles (/horses etc).
