Re: Worst Battlefield So Far

@switch3609 I have a lot of criticisms of 2042...which I have thoroughly documented here on the forums but I don't think that 2042 is the worst by any means. In my mind that award could go to any of the last three BF titles from Hardline to BF5. Unlike in those games I actually have fun in 2042 despite the horrible UI, gimped social systems, horribly designed weapon customization interface, muffled soundscape, and constant server disconnects. Overall I'm optimistic for Portal as its reception seems to have been overwhelmingly good.

Portal is excellent but could be better with scoreboard and being easier to join friends, change teams and squad up in games.

AOW is a complete Trainwreck and as bad as BFV is it looks like gold compared to the 2042 side of the game.

In conclusion all future Battlefield titles should be made by Ripple as Dice has lost their way.

Eh, I'll wade in here too as I've been fairly vocal in my own takes on negatives and positives.

I spent most of last night playing with friends I've made through work, and we've been playing BF together since the first one, none of the others had bothered with the beta or been in the earlier test(s), and like myself, they more or less dropped the franchise early on in BF5.

While i still think the specialist system is pointless vs just giving old classes a new gadget slot, and i think the lack of gun variety is annoying we all agreed it was fun to play something that felt like BF yesterday.

Thanks to the rather comical connection issues in core/AOW last night we went and played portal BF3 and BC2 for a few hours, before realizing you just had to keep trying to connect for all out warfare to get it going, which we eventually did.

I could do a whole write-up on some hilarious design decisions i noticed yesterday (especially in context of some discussions after tests here the last few months) and i lost count of how many times someone in my group made a joke along the lines of "that's intuitive", but at the end of the day we probably had more fun (even trying to make sense/fun of specialists) yesterday than we did with BF1 or 5.

I refuse to even include battlefront in the comparison.

Although we wondered a couple of times if servers had been dialed down to 64 as a couple seemed rather empty at times (and we ran into zero AI the whole night in AOW or anywhere else for that matter) we genuinely had fun playing BF3 (though that needs some tweaks via portal to feel "right", and the guns are a little off) and BC2 rush, and in core/AOW we actually noticed a few who were really trying to play like "classic" battlefield and i probably saw more rezzes and ammo/medkits last night than is saw for the entire beta, which was positive.

I don't expect that to last after "full" launch, but we'll see.

I spent most of the night in core either as anti-armor using... seeking hand grenades and a CG, or as a plate pez dispenser/medic, but it was still fun, and we'll be playing again tonight as soon as respective family stuff is squared away.

Oh, on a slightly different but related note, @Trokey66 , you'll be glad to know that i can confirm that M/KB seems to work just fine on consoles and that i can confirm they have aim assist too just to make it hilariously fair for everyone.

Ran into one person running either a subgun and dmr on and off, obviously moving with a m/kb while on xbox, and absolutely murdering everyone everyone with ease while zipping around like a lunatic while doing it.

I'm guessing it was "just" a XIM user, but that aim assist is still comical when combined with M/KB, especially with a DMR at medium range (at close range it wasn't that bad as it's hard to miss at that point anyway).

All that said, still comfortably not the worst BF (portal alone makes that argument moot), despite Dice apparently *trying* to prove me wrong at times.

Edit: A forward from a friend of mine. He'd like to thank whoever adapted the T system to portal for making the least intuitive attachment system in some time. That is all.

(i can add i explained how to get it to work to quite a few people on different maps last night, there's tooltips for a bunch of things we can figure out easily enough on our own but not for that comedy show of a system? Lost count of how many i saw in chat going "attachments don't work" when they clearly did, they just hadn't "figured out" you had to drop what you wanted into the bottom slot)
