What difference does it make, really?
Attachments modify the base stats of the weapon, don't they? This means that the attachments will probably behave similarly to how they do now, but starting a gun from scratch isn't like shaving your own skin off. Besides, the first two or three unlocks both come very quickly and dramatically improve the handling of the gun.
This is like starting threads complaining about S999 players - what difference does it make now? All it really means is that picking up a new weapon will be easier.
- 4 years ago@filthy_vegans They gave the impression that base guns will be better than guns with attachments but I think they meant that attachments on guns will be slightly worse than they was in the previous patch.

I personally find the gunplay in 2042 very mixed.
A few guns are good and the rest are just 'meh'. Also some attachments have perhaps become too useful (like some compensators) and we don't want too many 'meta'-builds regarding attachments.
I hope they can make more guns fun to play in general (buffing DMRs seems fine at least).
But we have to see what actually happens and how the guns feel after tomorrow.

Guns aren’t the problem it’s the abysmally bad netcode that compounds the issue

Yes - there's literally no reason for anyone to use a DMR - they just don't have a clear niche.

Dmr guns are at the moment terrible and using the scar with a long barrel in single fire mode is far superior and it really shouldn’t be the case.
