Re: BF2042 CPU Running At 100% Constantly For No Reason

hey, this actually worked for me!!! thank you very very much!!

so: i7 9600k, 32GB DDR4, RTX 2070 Super
game was really laggy and stuttering on lowest settings on both Conquest and Rush, 64x64 (all players, no AI)

installing the latest Visual++ and turning "Thread Optimization" to OFF on NVidia Control Panel (then restarting computer) made the game actually playble!!! I can even bump settings to high and the game runs waaaaaaaaaay better than before.

thanksss @demo2248_1

TLDR: install/update Visual C++ (from Microsoft website https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160) and turn off "Thread Optimization" on Nvidia Control Panel. not sure which one helped but doing those two things really improved the game for me

Enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling in windows 10 fixes low GPU usage.
  • that doesn't work for me and a lot of users, glad it works for you but if you are running above 1080p the game will stutter and drops fps as it only uses 8 cores from 36 Threads I have on my Intel Core i9-7980XE

    All the Best, Sergio!

My last CPU was a 7980XE direct die at 5Ghz DDR4 4000 CL15. It was a beast. Yes the game

uses 8 cores. But 8 cores is 16 threads.

The 8600K only has 6 threads.. The 7980XE will steadily run 15 threads at very good and close to

identical usage in BFV when I had my 7980XE earlier this year.

It did pretty well. Not with bone stock settings though. CPU needed very good cooling, direct die, and a huge overclock to provide solid gaming performance at 1080P and 1440P.

Disable enhanced C states in your bios. And make sure to run your CPU at 4.4-4.5 minimum on all cores.

Also, high resolution uses less CPU. You would be getting skipping with lower resolutions.

@tps34433 bro just dont.... u dont understand it. Yes u can play it smoothly but u should have at least 180fps with your set up. So theres something wrong.
We dont compare BF2042 with BF5 or others....
Our problem is, that we wanna play this game even if its on the lowest setting.
IF u compare it to BF5, i should have easly 60-70 FPS with my setup. I never played shooters on high qualitiy thats why i dont have a expensive setup.
There are people out there, who dont have the money to buy expensive hardware, so it makes no sense that u can play this game smooth on a ps5, which cost about 600€ (Europe) but totaly * on a medium PC which is about 900-1000€.
U are just selffished, when u say that everybody in this thread should buy a new CPU because of ONE game which IS the problem.
So play the game and mind your own buisness.
  • Completely agree. I cannot understand what we are talking about here. We have feedback from 4-core up to 8-core users reporting that issue while EA-DICE is recommending a 4-core CPU. There are plenty of evidences out there, that a quad-core CPU is capable to run the game i.e.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAzZFW9-KNU

We should not talk about what we should invest to fix that problem. EA should fix that problem or at least give any feedback to that massive amount of affected users.

We also have same setups perform very differently, something else is the problem here i suspect. Even PS5s are behaving differently.

  • The PS5 doesn’t have a 6 core 6 thread CPU either though. The PS5 has a really good CPU with liquid metal for tim. And the 6700XT clocks very high too. It runs like 2,100+.

Of course the PS5 will run it well.

And 180fps? No lol. Not at 2560x1440P with DLSS off.

I do have a frame rate cap of 158 fps though. So it could potentially do better. 120-150+ is average depending on the map.

People have computers much weaker than a PS5 and they complain about poor performance.

Reinstall windows and run a 9900K minimum would offer a good experience in this game.

  • There isn't a hardware issue, we can try to fix our cases but it isn't normal, i have a 10700k with 32gb and 3080, and at this moment i'm playing 1080p@45fps , sometimes i get 60fps but with stuttering, the developer must solve this problem, it isn't normal that we must, OC, or use XMP, or change the nvidia settings or windows register, etc..., and it more weird, in beta i played it at 5210x1440 in ultra a 60fps... it isn't a hardware problem

  • This is weird, and there is no reason why this would work but it did for me. Turn off "Threaded Optimization" in the Nvidia Control Panel, create a separate profile for BF2042 though in NVCP.

    i5 8600K @ 4.9

    3070 not overclocked

    32 Gigs 3000mhz ram.

My frames were fine but even when I was getting 130fps the game felt like it was running at 20fps. My frames were normally between 95 and 140, when I tuned off Threaded Optimization my frames did not increase but the gameplay became smooth.

Might be worth a try guys, as I said there is no way with a modern title this should work but it did.
