Re: BF2042 Makes GPU Fan Speeds Go Nuts

@R4DiC4L if your TV eg has 60Hz refresh rate your GPU only needs to render 60FPS if you enabled Vsync.
If you disable it, your GPU renders every frame it can and might get loaded way higher... so that explains perfectly the high fan speed of your graphics card

    @ATCleeghoofd     I wouldn't say it "explains perfectly".

    Turning Vsync off doesn't make my GPU run hot, so it has no reason to ramp the fan speeds up to 100%

    Also, why would turning vsync off stop my fan curves working and completely override my GPU software (GPUTweak)?

  • @R4DiC4L there are more areas on your graphics card that could run hot besides the GPU die, like the vrm area or even the onboard memory...

    How many fps does the 2080 need to render when Vsync is enabled and how much with Vsync disabled ?

    @ATCleeghoofd  Why does BF2042 render my GPU software obsolete when Vsync is off?
    Why can I not adjust my fans manually when BF2042 is running with Vsync is off?
    Why does it 'only' happen in BF2042 and no other games?

    BF2042 is somehow overridding my GPU software and ramping up the fan speeds 'only' when Vsync is off.

    If I turn Vsync on again, GPUTweak works and I can adjust the fans. If I turn Vsync off again, GPUTweak won't work again...

    Thanks for offering you ideas, but I am 99% sure it doesn't have anything to do with overloading my GPU or temps.

    It's impossible for a game to "override" your drivers or GPU's BIOS. Check your GPU clocks with vsync on/off and how much frames it's actually rendering (for example using MSI Afterburner). If they go higher the fans will kick in. It's normal. Turning off vsync makes your GPU render as many frames as it can. Also power section, core and VRAM get hotter when you display more frames and power draw is higher. You can also rethink cooling of your computer case. Good airflow is important. Probably you're baking your GPU - hence high rpm on GPU fans.

    @Boro666plAgain, thanks for your input, but I don’t think you understand the problem. I have tried to explain it very clearly.

    I have great airflow, I have a Lian Li 011 Dynamic EVO with 9 fans in it, I also have water cooling and my temps on CPU and GPU are fine.
    With vsync off my gpu software (afterburner or gputweak) doesn’t work and I can’t adjust fan speeds.

    With vsync on, my gpu software works and I can adjust fan speeds.

    Again, this problem only happens with BF2042. Any other graphically intensive AAA title doesn’t recreate this problem.
