Re: Xbox Series X BF2042 Crash Persists

My game is installed internally. I do a hard restart and unplug my xbox's power cord. Only doing this allows me to play a full game or sometimes close to a full game without crashing. Once it crashes I move on to another game because I would then have to do a full restart and power cycle again if I want to play 2042 to play another full game, or close to a full game. If I just boot battlefield back up without doing the hard reset and power cycling then the game will crash again at more instantly and may sometimes even turn off my xbox.

    Hello Team,

I found some interesting behaviors over the past weekend, not sure if anyone or noticed this (or I am the last one to know).

SO...I have been able to play through sessions without crashing (and with standard Series X controller) (knock on the wood).

What I noticed was BF2042 WILL CRASH no matter how many times you reinstalled or where you installed, the game will still crash even if you tried to quit the game and restart Series X. However, if you power off your Series X completely through the Full shutdown in Sleep mode & Startup.

Here is what I need help from the team to validate (since I am still testing this):

    1. Make sure your console is updated to the latest OS version.

    2. Make sure you quit BF2042 completely (not leaving the game in suspended state).

    3. Go to Settings > General > Sleep mode & Startup, select Full shutdown to power down your console.

    4. Wait for a bit after your console powered down completely before starting it back up.

    5. Try a few sessions and report back.

For those wondering how I noticed this, I was able to play a few sessions without any crashes immediately after my Xbox updated the OS this past week. However, once I turned off my console and turned it back on (I have my console's Sleep Mode in Standby) the crash continues.

Now, I have tried to set my console's Sleep Mode to Energy Saver, but if anyone willing to give it a try, please let everyone know how it goes.

    Thanks!

@Niling0227 Even though I wrote my last post saying I'm done, I'm just about to try something new. I ended up opening up my Series X and giving it a full clean from dust etc. I've had my console since launch day and I was actually surprised that there wasn't as much dust as I thought there would be. So I'm reinstalling the game and I'm going to give it one more try. Obviously cleaning the console meant I was fully powered down and I also unplugged the plug from the mains. I'm not really that optimistic about it all, but it's literally the last thing I can possibly try.

If I have successful games after install, I'll try your method once crashing begins again. After that though I will be completely done. I'll update if I have any success.

@MuddPunk27 Sounds stupid but when you play try playing with nothing plugged into usb ports. I’ve just had my first crash since using the standard controller. I had my elite 2 charger plugged in which I don’t normally do when playing bf
  • @Jord4n845 Already done that. The game lasted for 6 minutes before it crashed after fully cleaning the inside and being freshly powered up and installed. That's me done. Couldn't even get one game in after all of that. We shouldn't have to bend over backwards to make a game work. The developers and publishers should be trying their hardest to make things like this right. It is not the consumers job to try and fix their game, or at least make it playable. I think there's enough of us with this issue that this should be a priority.. but no.. seasonal updates are more important because it brings that sweet cheddar in. So yeah.. I'm gonna cut my losses with my purchase. If I ever want to play battlefield again, I'll probably just head back to BF V.

I may sound bitter about all of this through most of my posts (and rightfully I should be), but I am generally gutted that I can't play this and I definitely feel let down. It's confirmed for me that I won't be buying another one until I have scoured reviews and these forums before I even contemplate purchasing another battlefield game. I knew I should of just waited for EA play to add it to game pass.

@MuddPunk27 I am truly sorry to hear this. I am not familiar with how Xbox handles different power states, but I would assume unplugged the power cord would be equivalent to a Full shutdown (something I have not got to in the past few days). I am still testing and honestly, I haven’t ran into any crashes in the past days (knocking on the wood). I just tried Quick Resume last night by accident, which seems to be working, and just began testing Energy saving mode to see if it would be equivalent to a Full shutdown as well.

@Niling0227 Thank you. I didn't even get round to trying energy saver mode like you suggested. I figured with all that I'd done, I should of at least got one game in. So I uninstalled straight away. I mean I've tried all other suggestions that have helped people and that didn't work either. So yeah I've made my mind up.

Just a quick side note, I also jumped on to the twitch stream earlier and was ignored 3 times by the staff in there too 😂 Finally got a reply after the 4th and told to reach out for support here. Which I'd already stated I'd done for the last two months to no avail. Then guess what?! I got ignored and they ended the stream 😂 Just fighting a losing battle. This has taken up far too much of my time and effort.. and it's all been wasted. Such a shame.
  • I feel your pain, heavily. I'm also done for now until EA actually fixes the game for Xbox Series X instead of making us all try 3 dozen tech support blanket troubleshooting steps that no one on any other platform needs to worry about.

Sucks man, as someone who pre ordered the ultimate edition I feel completely let down as well. I helped build a portal mode called Infected and a couple months after launch we already had many thousand unique players joining our modes. We built a nice discord community around infected that we all agreed was the most fun we've ever had playing battlefield. Then the updates started rolling in, with each update Portal was broken in some way. And along the way my game would crash on Series X. Every update did nothing to fix it. The devs didn't address it.

Game pass is bringing a significant increase in players, it's time to take accountability with new ppl encountering the same game crash/ console crash on the only game we play having this issue....

Into the new year and still have this issue ☹️ Makes this game unplayable.

  • Still can’t play the game, still same old crashing. Gave up don’t want it to break my xbox
