Anyone else playing open weapons despite preferring closed weapons?

I too prefer closed weapons but have played the open weapons maps because, partly to do some of the challenges but also because the maps and other mechanics basically just promote running and gunning. With the exception of maybe liberation peak, and that depends on your play style a little more, why would you choose anything other than an smg? You can melt people at short and mid range.
