B6 Open Beta feedback from a Veteran Player

1. Spawn timers are way too fast, it should be 10 seconds at least. This results in a Call of Duty-like experience where everyone runs around at full speed shooting instead of playing tactical because there's essentially no downside to dieing, you instantly respawn back on your squad member, vehicle or control point and you're right back in the fight like you never left. Same goes for Vehicles. You destroy a vehicle and it's irrelevant because another one rolls back onto the battlefield within a minute. Increase the timers. Also impacts support players negatively because people will just respawn instead of waiting for a revive that may never come. It's faster but it shouldn't be.

2. These maps are too small and make the game feel like Call of Duty where all you do is run around in a circle and shoot each other, die in 5 seconds, respawn and repeat. This combined with excessive choke points and virtually no respawn timers feels like a meatgrinder and is honestly not fun in most cases. Praying that these maps in the Beta are the smallest ones and the rest are much larger which is supposed to be normal for Battlefield games. If the rest of the maps are this way, I'm not buying it. Simple as that. This is not what Battlefield is nor what your playerbase wants. Take it from a Battlefield player of 20 years.

3. Hit reg is super inconsistent. Sometimes TTK is quick, other times you shoot a full 30 mag into people with hit markers or get none at all because the shots aren't registering. Also have this same issue with the sniper and DMRs where I can see the bullet going through them and hitting the terrain behind them yet they take no damage. It's crazy that it's been 15 years since Bad Company 2 which also had the same issue and Battlefield 3 yet somehow its still a problem to this day. Wild.

4. Reduce Damage drop-off and increase body shot damage. I noticed many of the carbines and rifles take a full mag to kill someone at mid range and sometimes not even that is enough. Someone mentioned the M417 loses more than half it's damage at 20 meters which is insane but it explains a lot. It makes me wonder how bad it is on the other guns. All rifles and carbines should be effective at further distances. They're not supposed to be SMGs, this isn't an arcade shooter. Weapon ballistics and damage properties should be more realistic for ALL weapons. TTK was much faster and more realistic in previous titles, we need to get back to that.

5. Explosion area damage is basically non-existent. I'm shooting people with RPGs and it's only a kill if its a direct hit or they're almost dead.  I'm shooting clusters of infantry all standing close together and it will only kill the first guy that you hit. Same goes for tank shells. I've shot tank shells at peoples feet yet it only does 20 damage. That should be a kill every single time!

6. Scope glint should be removed completely. This doesn't need to be in the game at all. Another bad mechanic every new age shooter is adding to their games for some reason. It's bad on both ends. As the shooter it instantly reveals your location shining a giant spotlight at the enemy team. As an opponent you can't even see the shooters body to make an accurate shot because the light is so ridiculously large, you just have to guess where their body will be. This combined with the sniper hiding behind cover, strafing, and latency is a complete nightmare. There's already so many ways to find them including the bullet stream, gunshot audio, spotting, and killcam. None of the best shooter games have this mechanic because it is stupid and unnecessary. The best Battlefield ever - Bad Company 2 didn't have it and sniping in that game was great.

7. Reduce bullet drop on DMRs. I never understood this about Battlefield games. Why do the DMRs shots always arch like rainbows? It makes them garbage at long range which is supposed to be their strength and **bleep** near impossible to hit moving targets. So they're bad at close range, bad at mid range because they get outclassed by ARs, LMGS and sometimes even Carbines and SMGs. Seriously, why does this weapon category exist just to be bad at every range?? Obviously Snipers should be kings of long range but there's no reason for DMRs to suck this bad. The M39 EMR is easily the worst gun in the beta. It feels like shooting a longbow, that's how pitiful the bullet trajectory is. Make it more realistic.

8. Remove the automatic lean on corners and add manual keybinds for a left and right lean. It doesn't work 95% of the time anyways and it's picky about your positioning. Manual lean is better because it gives the player agency over when and where they want to lean peak. Sometimes you're trying to hide behind cover to regen health but the game decides it wants you to stick your head out at the worst possible time. Another poor design decision.

9. Give Assault the ammo box again. Support has everything, paddles, medpacs, ammo and the deployable barrier. Assault has nothing but a grenade launcher. Give them the ammo again like in Bad Company 2!

10. This should be a no brainer by now but Closed weapons should be the standard game mode. This is Battlefield not Call of Duty. Battlefield has roles with their own play-styles, weapons and skill suits and that's the way it's supposed to be. Really it should be called semi-closed because you can still use Carbines, DMRs and Shotguns on any class. It's not very limiting at all.

11. Revive should have a cooldown or a limit per player so people can't die 5 times within 20 seconds and be instant revived each time. There should be a 30 second timer on being revived or a limit of 3 revives before your character full dies like when you get headshot. Another scenario that really sucks is when you kill everybody but the support so they run around and revive their entire team that just died. Having the cooldown timer or revive limit would help a lot. I also think the charge up time for the paddles should take longer so you cannot spam it as easily.

12. limit classes per squad so its not 30 snipers, 30 supports reviving each other endlessly or 30 engis spamming rockets. I think 2 of the same class per squad is more than fair.

13. Allow Weapon modding in between games rather than at the start of the round. There is so much downtime in between matches yet you don't allow us to modify our loadouts during that time. Why? There are so many afks at the beginning of matches because of this.

14. The red outline of your killer is terrible. Take it out. I don't need a reminder of where I was just shot from after I literally just experienced it. I'd rather see clearly what's going on in the fight after I died and the red outline of the player or vehicle only blocks my vision.

15. Server browser is 100% necessary. As others said, it is mandatory for the community and the longevity of this game.

16. Increase ammo for Assault with a shotgun secondary. 3 mags with primary and 2 with the shotgun is not enough. Should be 4 and 3 at least.

17. Not sure if this is just a Beta thing or if it will be different at launch, but leveling up weapons is extremely fast. I don't know about everyone else but I'm maxing out a weapon in about 3 matches. At that rate, I would probably max all the weapons in the game within a couple weeks. Slow it down a bit.

18. I don't like my character being randomized each time and I don't want to be forced to play as a girl. Allow us to pick our character and customize them with a few preset options at least. Nothing crazy.

A few more additions now that it's Weekend #2:

    19. UI is a mess and scattered all over the place with sub-menu after sub-menu just to select a game mode and start the queue. Another example is the settings/options menu. Each category has a section with an advanced options link that takes you to another menu! To mod your gun you have to select the same option 3 times and close out another 4 just to save it and get back to the game. Simplify all of it. It's a pain to navigate and is not intuitive or user friendly whatsoever.

    20. Rush needs to be 32v32 not 12v12. I was excited to play this weekend specifically for this but you guys ruined it with this plus trying to force Open Weapons down our throats. RIP to the best game mode.
