Beta Feedback
After intensively testing the BF6 open beta over two weekends, here's my feedback.
Bugs encountered:
- The game crashes frequently. Previously, tanks were sometimes seen spinning through the ground or soldiers running into the sky.
- Once, after spawning, the entire screen was blue, showing only the objective and squad icons. The view returned to normal after I used a hand grenade.
- Whenever you try to adjust your gear on the spawn overview map after death, you can't access the various gear slots. Once you've changed classes and then go back to the previous class, it works.
- When equipment is placed on the ground (e.g., motion sensors or spawn point devices), it often disappears. They are not on the ground and are no longer in the inventory.
- With the motion sensor, it's often impossible to deliberately place it. Once selected in the menu, it is often placed directly on the ground without first holding it in your hand to choose a location.
- When a player is killed, they usually fly extremely high through the air, so that they land on walls, objects or houses and cannot be healed by medics there.
- Problems with sloping surfaces and piles of rubble. Instead of crawling over them, you often crawl through them. I myself had a situation where a grenade exploded right behind me, but I didn't take any damage because I accidentally crawled into a pile of rubble.
- I encountered an error twice where it said a bullet had hit me, and then the camera remained in its current position. I could still move my character, but from a third-person perspective. The controls, however, were mirrored. Even when I moved out of the camera's field of view, the camera remained in place. I could then only see where my character was moving on the minimap. I couldn't open the menu or inventory either. The only way it went back to normal was if someone killed the character. After respawning, everything was back to normal.
Need for improvement:
- The cursor-controlled spawn overview map is a nightmare. It was done much better in the previous games. The cursor should definitely be removed for selection.
- Compared to previous games, the tanks feel too light. Even the slightest movement causes the tank to wobble left and right like a duck's butt.
- Cars can simply push tanks off the road while driving. This is very unrealistic, since tanks are actually much heavier than cars.
- The maps are far too small and confusing. This may be because it was only the beta, but there really needs to be more. I also miss more open maps like in BF1 and BF5, which allow for larger field battles to properly utilize tanks, aircraft, etc.
- There should be an option to change teams like in BF1. It's very frustrating when your goal is to conquer 15 sectors but you become a defender for the tenth time in a row.
- It's annoying when you shoot through the shutters and windows of buildings and see a room behind them, but can't enter it because it seems to be just blocked by the programmers. I don't know if this was intentional, but at a few points, you can enter these empty spaces, and this creates some great opportunities in the game. It should definitely always be this way.
- Since the beta doesn't have dynamic weather conditions or day-night cycles, I hope this will be included in the full version. At the very least, there should be a map for night missions, like the "Nivelle Nights" map in BF1.
- Interacting with the radio is a nice idea, but poorly implemented. The interaction doesn't work properly, and it only offers on and off. It would be better if the player could adjust the radio volume or tune into other stations, like the radios in the newer games of the GTA series, for example. There should also be more other interaction options. For example, there are fire alarms in the museum on the Empire State Map, but you can only shoot them. It would be great if you could trigger them, which would then sound an alarm in the museum and perhaps activate sprinklers that impair your eyesight. It would also be a really cool Easter egg if, when you pull the fire alarm in the museum, an alarm would go off in the fire station across the street.
- In some places the potential was not fully exploited. Since old fire stations are very popular in the USA, they should be expanded on the Empire State Map. It would be great if the first floor could be accessed, featuring the firefighters' bedrooms, kitchen, etc. It would also be cool if you could slide down a fireman's pole from there (the same principle as the cables in elevator shafts).
- I found it extremely disappointing that the trailer for BF6 showed the pyramids in Egypt and the Brooklyn Bridge, but you couldn't fight there at all (the bridge was only visible in the background outside the map). I would have expected that you could fight in and on the landmarks, similar to the bridge in the "Twisted Steel" map in BF5. That would have been extremely cool. Not just as a boring background.
Positive things to mention:
- The best thing about the beta was probably not planned at all. On the map in Cairo, in the beta, it was possible to get onto the roofs of the city and move from roof to roof using acrobatic jumps and parachute gliding, and from there to get into the empty interiors of higher floors of tall buildings. The unplanned battles between snipers from both teams on the rooftops were the best thing about the entire beta and were so much fun. Since this was probably not planned, I would like to urgently request that this be allowed in the finished game. If it is not desired, you could also create a separate game mode for this type of sniper battles on the city rooftops. That would be a fantastic unique selling point that could set BF6 apart from other shooters. So please allow this in the final game as well.
- I was pleased to note that this time, not just the US was chosen as a warring party, but NATO. Especially in these times, it's all the more important to emphasize the importance of cooperation and partnership between countries. Big praise to the developers for this point.
