BF6 Beta Feedback
Hello there! I'm using this post to leave some feedback for the beta as I've had a total blast with it this first weekend and can't wait to jump in for weekend 2!
To start, I'd like to list some Positive things about the beta:
- Sound Design is absolutely top tier. I've had friends on Comms who've wanted to turn it down to hear each other better but for me it feels so immersive it feels like I'm in the moment, the music feels great and suspense heightening too! (Also gotta mention loved Limp Bizkit in the trailer)
- Graphics/Optimisation some have said in this forum that it needs more work. I've seen some low detail textures here and there, but overall, I'm really impressed that even with my slightly dated rig I'm able to have smooth frames and still enjoy a cinematic experience!
- Gunplay feels responsive and impactful, I like that alot of the weapons especially without the right attachments will kick like a horse, and there's definite range limits for some weapons (I will mention in my further feedback some do need balancing)
- Classes/Weapons feels like we're actually back in battlefield boys. No frilly skins, no operators. Feels like you're filling a role in a team, as battlefield should be.
- Maps are gorgeous, and the destruction is beautiful, alot of them seem really well balanced for both infantry and vehicles size wise, persistent vehicle corpses really add to immersion and opportunities for infantry to snake into an objective in different ways.
Some areas I'd like to see Change, tweaks or Improvement:
- UI & Settings definitely needs a search for settings! PLEASE. Some of the other UI elements need cleaning and fixing up. On transition screens and respawn screens it would be best to see your squad mates names AND role, rather than either one. A slight flash if a teammate goes down beside/behind you would be great too, or if they ask for revive (for support especially)
- Closed Weapon Mode needs to be kept in the full game and brought into every mode! It feels great and no matter what side of the fence you're on, you should be able to play out all the modes of the game! Personally I prefer restricted, makes the roles feel more cemented, and that no one player can be a one man army.
- Weapon Balance whilst it's generally good, some weapons are clearly superior with certain attachments, looking at you, shotguns. Historically something the BF series has been very good for representing, shotguns especially need tweaking so that they arent too overpowered. Some weapons are very much a laser beam with the correct attachments, so there needs some tweaking to recoil.
- Dragging to revive has been a fantastic addition to the series, it feels amazing to drag your fallen squad mate from danger, bullets whizzing past like you're really in Hacksaw Ridge. I'd like to see this added to with maybe the potential for dragging forward? Or in a sense if you held forward movement whilst holding the revive key it moved you over your teammate to then drag them that direction? It's come up a couple of times that the best cover has been contextually in front of the downed player in gameplay is all. Additionally, a setting for revive priority is needed. I've had quite a few instances where I've gone to revive someone and instead grabbed their kit that's dropped on them when they went down.
- Time to Kill/Death (TTK/D) Sometimes feels a little inconsistent, very well could be either a balancing or netcode issue, as I've also been killed behind cover a couple of times. I'm very aware a beta will stress test servers so this could be resolved on release.
- Animations are for the most part, absolutely gorgeous and smooth, which makes the few instances they aren't more noticeable. Specifically, it would be nice to change the drag revive animation so that if there is no movement input, the animation would change to be more dynamic. This could be something simple like the hand that's usually dragging instead moving to indicate finding where to stab the injector. It's minor, however the juxtaposition of awkwardly holding the injector for a few seconds standing still in a scenario where everything else feels so fluid comes across as slightly jarring and awkward.
- Explosives for the purpose of environmental destruction are exceptional, and for vehicular destruction also hold their own. However, against infantry they feel a little lacklustre. Suppression is good, but when I've just punted a 40MM into a room that's subsequently blown the side of the building off, I should think the occupants would be experiencing a little bit more than "Suppressed". Equally, I find smokes almost essential for their use in zoning and covering whether that be to revive or push forward, that the frag becomes redundant almost.
- Defibrillators should need charging/spooling on 2nd use. When stowed I accept they can charge so that first use on equip is quick and snappy, but consecutive uses should need some kind of spool up. Could instead have charge that degrades over multiple uses that then needs charging.
Detail of the Bugs/Issues I've had:
For the purposes of developer diagnostics should any issues be investigated, I'm running the beta on PC (EA App), an RTX 2070Super, a Ryzen 7 and the game is installed on an SSD.
- Issues where party members aren't queued into the same match/entered into the same squad
- Minor graphical glitch seems to occur occasionally when reviving (Looks alot like the classic GMod missing texture Pink/Black checkered but instead Dark Green/black, perhaps where someone's body has glitched into the floor/environment/player model)
- Some deaths cause the ragdoll to enter the stratosphere
- The camera occasionally anchors in place and tracks the player in 3rd person
- Rangefinder attachment doesn't seem to work (This could be my own incompetence, but I couldn't find a way to activate it, nor did I notice any passive difference with it equipped or unequipped)
Lastly, I'd like to take the opportunity at the end of this lengthy post (I'm a passionate guy, what can I say?) to give a heartfelt thank you to the BF6 Devs who clearly poured their heart, soul and everything else into making this game a joy to play. Sure there are a couple bits I'd change, and it's a lil rough, but that's what a beta is for and the points I mentioned are only very minor parts of what is a truly exceptional whole. You guys have truly listened and brought Battlefield back from the darkness. Keep it up guys! You're doing amazing work and I can't wait to jump back in on weekend 2! (if there are any additions at that point, I'll update this post).
