Bulletpoint Feedback for BF6 Beta
Note: I played this on a
Pros:
- Feels like classic Battlefield.
- Hit registration is solid.
- Game sounds really good.
- Game looks great.
- Runs good on medium-high settings even on my mid-range computer. (Although I eventually had to change it to low because the game kept crashing. [DirectX function error])
- Gunplay is really good, they're well animated, they feel nice and responsive to shoot, all while not being too hard to use due excessive recoil or muzzle flash.
- Doesn't try too hard to be Call of Duty or a hero shooter, just sticks to it's guns and goes back to what Battlefield did for years beforehand.
- Healing mechanics are finally back to it's classic ways of defibrillators = instant revives, plus I like that squadmates can drag-heal now, too.
- Lots of classic sounds are reused in this game, so anyone conditioned by BF3/BF4's audio will feel right at home in this game's soundscape.
- No cringey dialogue or quirky characters, all players are finally generic soldiers again, playing as a small cog in a big machine, which really feeds into the chaotic nature of the game.
- Vehicles are well-balanced.
- Levelling up weapons isn't super time-consuming.
- Level destruction is awesome. After years of yearning for BC2 destruction, we finally have it back.
Cons:
- Trying to get the game working was a nightmare, I had to figure out how to navigate my computer's horrifically confusing BIOS interface just to turn on Secure Start for the game. The whole process took about 2 hours worth of troubleshooting, when I should just be able to jump right into the game and have it work.
- Iberian Offensive is an offense to all Battlefield maps.
- Pistol is really terrible, not a reliable backup cuz it takes 4-5 shots to kill someone with it. I'd crank up the damage just a bit so it's easier to get 3-4 shot kills with it.
- Sniping feels really awkward, feels great when you're actually in the "sweet spot", but I'd be lying if I said I don't wish for old-school one-shot kill sniping, since it feels more consistent.
- Not having class-locked weapons kind of hinders the uniqueness of each class, and class abilities don't really make up for it. I'd often find myself playing only support, using whatever gun is convenient for any given situation or map. (Unless I was driving a tank or something, then I'd do the same thing with engineer. To fix this, I'd place more emphasis on class-locked weapon modes, like making class-locked conquest just "conquest", and then making an unlocked playlist the side mode.
- Kind of weird to me how support is now the healer and the supplier, rather than assault having a healing role. I think this makes support way too important to good "team composition", which shouldn't even be relevant, and people should be able to be whatever class they want. If healing when back to assault like in classic Battlefield, then support could go back to just being the "ammo guy", which promotes more variety in class picks.
- Helicopters are hard to fly because the 3rd person camera doesn't stay connected to the roll of the helicopter, and the first person is so cluttered and ugly it feels more like playing Steel Battalion then flying a helicopter.
- Maps (as of now), are way too small and close range. Liberation Peak is the only really "open" map, and even then, it's not very big compared to older maps, and it's way too cramped in certain parts.
- Engineers should be locked to one rocket launcher type.
- Melee is stupid weak. Practically useless to stab people from the front. Give us front takedowns like we got in BF1.
- Suppression is completely useless. If it even does anything at all, I can't tell. Support would be much more useful if suppression maybe rattled your screen or something small that would still make it a relevant mechanic.
- Snipers don't flinch at all. I could be actively landing shots on a sniper, and he couldn't be bothered less by it. Even from my perspective, I can stay perfectly steady with my scope while I'm getting hit and then kill the guy that's hitting me. Snipers are supposed to depend on positioning and methodical movement - not just "aiming good" - to be effective. So, in it's current state, it really does nothing more than promote camping (on Cairo rooftops).
- The IFV is way too weak. The cannon does about half as much damage as it should, and the TOW is pathetic against armor (doesn't even seem to match RPGs in damage). The MBT is way more reliable at killing vehicles and infantry alike since it's coax is so strong, but the IFV just feels like a crappier version of the MBT. It's especially hilarious when every time I run into an enemy IFV while I'm in an Abrams, I usually just shrug off everything they shoot at me and just calmly shoot them 4 times until they die. This has happened more than once. Plus, the .50 on the gunner seat is so good at killing infantry, I usually find myself preferring to use that rather than the IFV's cannon.
- Netflix UI sucks, just give me lists on the side of the screen. That's all everyone ever asked for.
- Sniper glint is really obnoxiously bright and huge. BF4's small white beams were just fine. You actually had to look for them instead of being told where they are. (Also promotes good positioning on the part of snipers.)
- The slowing effect caused by flames is stupid and obnoxious, it needs to go.
- I can only reload while ADS sometimes. I was able to do it with the stock MP7, but basically nothing else lets me reload while ADS, when I should be able to do it with all weapons.
Other:
- Roof camping exploits on Cairo are way too good. People don't look up so its really OP and it's stupid fun trying to navigate the roofs.
- The M4 kills really fast relative to the rest of the guns in the game.
- I was a little thrown off by how short the range on the defibs are, especially coming off of BF1 or BF4's revive range. I would kind of like a longer range with the defibs (maybe the classic 4-5m rather than the current 1-2m).
- I would like to see more obscure guns added to the game, or even some of the obscure guns we got in BF4 to make a return would be cool, too. (I'd kill for an F2000 in this game)
- Add weapon camos that can be unlocked via weapon achievements or progression. Something to show devotion to a specific weapon. Obviously nothing too overbearing or unsuited for the military aesthetic.
- You should unlock new weapons by playing specific classes, not by ranking up. Challenge-based unlocks are awesome, too. It was always really rewarding to me trying to hyper-focus a specific weapon unlock and then the weapon turns out to actually be really good and worth the effort.
- Squads should be 5 players big, we aren't playing a battle royale game.
- 32v32 is enough.
- The fake doors I keep finding in buildings are really annoying, they should be more easily distinguishable, or just removed.
- Bring back elevators.
- Being able to choose the gender for each class would be good.
- "Expand scoreboard" button is kind of inconspicuous. I didn't notice it for a while, and I was a little irritated until I found it.
- Use more recognizable and easily distinguishable class icons instead of the weird ones we currently get. I have a hard time telling the difference between engineer and recon a lot of the time. Also use class icons instead of dots to make players with health and ammo easily identifiable by anyone.
- The shotgun needs a rework. It has weirdly tight spread, and a harsh damage falloff, when it should have a medium-range falloff and a lot of spread like it used to. It's current design makes it feel more like a sniper rifle with a really short range. Like, "shotgun" and "aim" are not supposed to be two words I use in the same sentence, but here I am.
- More factions that speak various languages would be an immersive and cool touch.
- You should automatically move onto your back when you move against a wall while prone. I don't like having to crouch and then go prone again just to lay against a wall.
Synopsis:
Overall, I REALLY like BF6, I keep forgetting I'm just playing a Beta because I get so sucked in to how much fun I'm having playing this game. Really strong move to make the Beta free. I'm not preordering, but so far I'm really sold on the game and might pick it up after the first wave of post-launch reviews come out. S**t bucket-worthy game.
