Game suddenly locked behind Playstation Plus paywall.

Game was working fine all morning until about 2 hours ago when it started requiring PS+. Checked Playstation store the requirement was added when it wasn't there last night when I preloaded the beta. This seems a bit shady I'm now locked from playing the Early Access Beta even though I'm a member through EA and I don't need PS+ currently. 

What's the word from EA on this? I contacted Playstation support and they said this is up to EA. Is EA requiring a PS+ subscription to play this Beta even though I'm a member through EA?
