Squad orders and spotting

So I get that as a squad leader you could give orders to attack an objective.

When you looked at an objective there were four dots on the side of the icon to indicate how many squads were currently targeting the objective (I think. Even that is a tad mysterious. I think I only saw a second dot a couple of times. Is no one else giving orders?)

There was also pinging - Q on keyboard
Single-Q on terrain was a ping putting down a green pin. A "go here" command. For just squad I think.
Single-Q on a kit, supply box, vehicle highlighted them. For just squad I think.
Double-Q on terrain was a ping putting down a red pin. A "beware here" warning. For just squad I think.
Single-Q on an enemy was spotting them. Your soldier would shout out. I believe they were put on minimap but for squad only?
Double-Q on enemy was spotting them, but also highlighting them like a kit/vehicle/etc and bringing up the four dots as if other squads might also be able to see them? Or was it indicated if others had seen them, but not actually showing them to other squads? Or were the dots showing if other squad members had seen them?

Added complication/confusion: Recon ADS with sniper rifle was automatically 'spotting' like a single-Q but for whole team?

Another added complication: Everyone had automatic 'IDing', not spotting. You looked vaguely near and enemy and the diamond would appear above them saying "this is an enemy". This was personal - no one else saw this.

Yet another added complication: The spotting seemed to (sometimes?) rely on you having IDed the enemy, and the double-Q spotting/highlighting seemed to require you to aim at the diamond of the IDed enemy and _not_ at their body?

One more minor complication: The deathcam 'ghost' of a player could be pinged with a red pin even if they were behind cover or otherwise obscure. This could well be intentional so you can tell your squad where your killer was even if you can't continue to spot them.

Basically, though, I'm not 100% sure about much of all that. If anyone has seen DICE describe how these functions should work please let me know.

My feedback here is to point out that I played for dozens of hours in the beta and still I'm not sure how any of the above is supposed to work.

Will there be an online 'instruction manual'? Or are we doomed to have to work everything out ourselves (and so 99% of players will never actually know and won't use these features properly, completely or at all).

  • They are removing auto spotting, so that should help with most. For manual green marker, I agree it should be for your squad only, however I prefer to keep the red one visible for everyone

Thanks for the reply, but hang on, what do you mean they are "removing auto spotting"? I've not seen that - where do you get that from, please?

Also... what do you mean by it hehe. Sniper auto-spotting for team? Personal IDing of enemies in 3D view?

And I believe the green and red 'markers' _are_ squad only, though I'm not sure. What makes you think they are team viewable? Or by 'red one' do you mean spotting, not pinging?

It's all so confusing... DICE PLEASE.
