Automatic weapon stops shooting firing at players

Anytime I start shooting at players, the gun stops shooting and I have to burst fire. Whenever I fire at nothing, it stays full auto until my sights are on a player. It's almost like when aim assist kicks in, it stops shooting and forces me to burst fire.
