Battlefield 6 Beta – BSOD on Asus Motherboards (DX12 Frostbite Bug?)

I’ve spent weeks - months troubleshooting Battlefield 2042 because it would BSOD every few matches. Now the Battlefield 6 beta is doing the exact same thing. Please up this post so EA see it.

It’s only EA Battlefield games that do this — I can play Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra + medium ray tracing at 2K), Squad, Darktide, Starfield, Killing Floor 3 and other very demanding games for hours without any crash, BSOD, or instability.

After talking with 20+ other players across forums and Discords for months, we’ve found a pattern:
If you have an Asus Z790-P or Asus Z490-P motherboard, you’re much more likely to get these BSODs.

Z790-P owners: some success with BIOS + Intel ME firmware updates
PRIME Z490-P owners (like me): BIOS update/ME hasn’t fixed it — still happens
My System:
CPU: Intel Core i9 10850K
GPU: RTX 3070
RAM: 32GB DDR4 (XMP disabled during testing)
Motherboard: Asus Prime Z490-P (latest BIOS)
PSU: Corsair RM750x
Display: 2560×1440 @ 144Hz
OS: Windows 11 home (fresh re-install, fully updated)
No Overclocking
What I’ve Tried:
Clean driver uninstall (DDU) → tested multiple WHQL drivers
BIOS update to latest version
Intel ME firmware update (where available)
Secure Boot enabled
Disabled XMP in BIOS
Reinstalled EA Anti-Cheat
Validated game files
Switched from DX12 to DX11 (fixes most crashes, but performance suffers)
Lowered resolution (1440p → 1080p)
Disabled ray tracing, DLSS Frame Gen, future frame rendering
Disabled overlays & non-Microsoft services (Discord, GeForce Experience, iCUE)
RAM tested with MemTest – no errors
Temps & voltages monitored – all normal
SFC / DISM checks – clean
BSOD Stop Errors Seen:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (rare)
VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys) – often if paused too long

I don’t believe these are “real” hardware faults — no other game or stress test triggers them.

Key Patterns:
Usually BSODs while loading into a match or in the first minutes
Happens on DX12, almost never on DX11
Only affects Frostbite-based Battlefield games (BF2042 + BF6 beta)
Strong link to Z490-P and Z790-P boards on Intel 10th/13th gen
What I’m Looking For:
More reports from Z490-P / Z790-P owners
Any permanent workaround besides DX11
Whether EA/DICE acknowledge this as a DX12 + Frostbite + Asus issue

At the moment, forcing DX11 is the only way to keep the game stable for me — and that should not be necessary in 2025.

If you have the same setup and issue, please reply — the more reports we get, the better chance this gets fixed.

I appreciate my Mobo is rather old now (5 years old, latest firmware was 2023) but this should not be an issue from a developer as big as Dice/EA.

I have an Asus Z790 motherboard with a 13900k and RTX 4090 and also have an issue with Battlefield games. Since I have had this PC I can't run BF1 anymore, it just closes when I open it with no error message. I don't have any issues with other games (outside of BF).

With BF6 after loads of tweaking and all sorts of issues (out of memory 4090, some ASUS service issues, bfevent.exe etc) I can get into a game but it randomly just closes a few minutes into, sometimes it is straight away and rarely I can complete a round, no error and no message in the Event Viewer.

I haven't got any other suggestions than what you have tried I am afraid, I have also tried all the same things!
