High GPU usage in menu (90–95%) – RX9700XT / Ryzen 9700X
Description:
While idling in the main menu, Battlefield 6 drives the GPU to 90–95% usage constantly, while CPU usage remains around 30–35%.
This feels abnormal for a non-rendering/menu state – similar issue was already present in BF2042 and seems to have carried over.
My suspicion:
It looks like the game is unnecessarily rendering something in the background (or "mining/grinding" using our hardware). Menus should not push GPUs to near 100% load.
System Specs:
- GPU: RX 9700 XT
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9700X
- RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2 (UEFI, Secure Boot On)
- OS: Windows 11 Pro (build 26100)
Evidence:
(Attached screenshot)
- GPU usage: ~90–95%
- CPU usage: ~35%
- Memory usage: ~16GB (menu only)
Steps to Reproduce:
- Launch Battlefield 6 and go to the main menu.
- Observe GPU usage via HWiNFO64 / Task Manager / monitoring software.
- Note constant near-maximum GPU load without active gameplay.
Expected Behavior:
Main menu should be lightweight – GPU load should be minimal or capped, similar to other AAA titles (FPS limiter / vsync in menus).
Actual Behavior:
GPU runs at near full utilization in menu, causing unnecessary power draw and heat.
Impact:
- Unnecessary power consumption and fan noise
- Increased temperatures and possible long-term wear
- Negative user experience, especially on high-end GPUs
