I found the culprit - Nvidia driver 580.97

Hi everyone,

I have: Legion 7 Gen 6:

  • RYZEN 9 5900HX.
  • RTX 3080.
  • 32GB RAM.
  • 2TB SSD nvme
  • Windows 11 24h2 (KB5063878) (26100.4946)

I was blessed to play battlefield 6 the first week and then something happened and my laptop crashed . The screen turned off, then numpad lock key flickered twice and then computer will no longer boot (I attached a couple of pictures )

I tried startup repair, but the system was no longer operable/ responsive. As soon as I log in windows , it freezes,  screen goes black and pc is not responsive (caps lock or numpad lock key lights do not respond to clicks - meaning system is froze )

Even in safe mode , it will run for like a minute and freeze again.

I opened the laptop removed the drives just to let the laptop get out of this endless loop. Got a fresh windows install. I installed battlefield again and then the system did the same thing. I thought maybe .net framework or any thing that the game was doing  is causing the problem.

I installed windows again without an internet connection ( no drivers were installed ) , then installed lenovo vantage after setting up the laptop.

I downloaded lenovo diagnostic tool , and let it run on Cpu , GPU, Ram ,Nvme drives. The nvida driver that was installed is an old one like 52x.xx (not sure about the exact version)

No error were found.   I even ran the Ram diagnostic tool that you run at windows startup , no errors were found.

To cut the story short, after a lot of trial and error and reading the error log ( before the system froze again ),  it was the nvida driver that is missing up everything as soon its installed. For whatever reasons it crashes the system.

The driver version is 580.97

((avoid at all cost))

Unfortunately I use this computer for work too so I will not risk losing my data again. I will have to wait :( .

Hopefully I'll be able to build a rig after the pc part become more reasonable , and play battlefield 6

The laptop is good, and I have been consistently playing other heavy games, and battelfield 2042. I also, I did play battlefield 6 beta for the first 2 days before nvida issued the new driver ( I was like maybe that will help the game lol)

Thank you for reading and I hope that helps anyone that suffered the same problem.

Most important tip , keep a recovery usb drive always.
