Will Battlefield 6 Matchmaking (not Portal) Allow Fallback to Populated Regions?

Hi DICE team,

Please clarify how matchmaking will work in Battlefield 6 for players outside North America and Europe.

In BF2042, many of us (especially in the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, etc.) were locked into empty servers in our region with no way to change that. The game never fell back to active regions like Europe, even when our local lobbies were completely dead. I get like 110 ms ping in Europe which is totally doable and a better option than a dead lobby.

Will BF6 automatically fallback to nearby populated regions if ours are inactive?

And if not:

Will we at least be able to manually change our matchmaking region in the settings?

Without one of these, a huge part of the global player base will once again be locked out of the game during non-peak hours. This could also lead to potentially massive consequences on global revenue for the game.

Thanks for listening, really hope this is being addressed.

  • Because when you join european and American servers you cause misery for everyone else on the server.

As an American myself who has played in NA and outside this just isn't true, a higher ping affects us more than it affects you. Your latency is effected by YOUR proximity to the server, not mine, that's how the netcode and interpolation works.

It's also very selfish to argue the rest of the planet shouldn't enjoy the game because of some made-up concern you've literally never experienced with BF. We've been doing it in every single BF prior to 2042 without causing you "misery." Hell even in 2042 if you count Portal lobbies.

Not to mention every major online multiplayer game allows for some flexibility in region if not outright selection options in the settings. This is to account for their players in low population regions.

  • Wrong your high ping causes problems, I've seen it many many times, that's why private server owners often kick for high ping.

Private server admins in old games often kicked high-ping players because servers were community-hosted and couldn’t handle variance well... that’s not the case with modern dedicated servers, especially from a studio like DICE with interpolation and lag compensation built-in.

And again... no one is asking to play on foreign servers by choice. We’re asking for the option to connect to a populated region when our own is dead. You’re essentially saying we should just sit in 0/64 lobbies forever so you never have to see a player with 90ms ping? That’s not reasonable, fair, or practical - nor has it ever been the issue you're callously making it out to be. I also promise you that it isn't a consideration being held by DICE - because again it's not really valid upon scrutiny.

What we’re asking for is industry standard. Call of Duty, Insurgency, Apex, Fortnite, even Valorant all have region selection or dynamic fallback. It’s not controversial, it’s necessary for global player access.

  • The best thing would be to let you choose the region you want to join on servers. Like Apex, which lets you choose the region manually. I hope they implement this.

Agreed, that would be a great solution, it's fairly simple and deeply needed for Battlefield players everywhere else on the globe. We want to enjoy the game we love and we're grateful we were able to in every single BF up until 2042 bizarrely shut us all out.
