Matchmaking for Top Gun Gauntlet Broken

When matchmaking as individuals, we can launch into a Top Gun Gauntlet match almost instantly.  But once I team up with someone from my friend's list, the server will reach 5-7 people and then completely stall.  Is the game rank filtering, or just broken?
