Battlefield 1 Black Screen on Startup (PC)

When I launch Battlefield 1 I can hear the music and everything, even makes the sounds of clicking a button when I click.  I just simply cannot see anything.  It used to work.  It worked very well, but now I just cannot play it at all.  I have tried repairing the game, reinstalling it completely, reinstalling graphics drivers, going back to old graphics drivers, and none of that worked.  Does anyone know what I could do to fix it?

  • I tried everything described here... But nothing works... Please, don't tell me I just lost money to a game I can't play due to some stupid error that should have been fixed long ago :/

HIt alt enter after starting up you may have to try and find a video setting that will work with your setup.

  • Not sure if this has been mentioned here, but it may help someone. In my case, it certainly does:

    Go to Documents/Battlefield 1/settings/PROFSAVE_profile

Open it with Word Pad or Notepad and check if your screen refresh rate is correct for your monitor.

For some reason my game sometimes switches the refresh rate to 95hz, which my monitor can't handle. This is when I get the black screen on startup.

Changing it back to (in my case) 60hz solves the issue

i have had this game for some time now like other people and what `seems` to work is a clean boot and hiding Microsoft services but not sure how many services are affecting the launching of this game, if anyone knows which is the most likely microsoft service(s) is causing the problem... do please let us know

This is strange because i have similar issue with Battlefield 1 going black screen on startup and then crashing after two minutes, and it is unlikely system related because i can run Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042 without problems

edit: it was fixed by updating drivers from nvidia geforce experience program and then launching it from there with optimal settings
