Battlefield 1 Can't Go Online?

Hey there,

I have over 500 hours in BF1, and hadn't played it in a year or so, and got the urge to play the other day. I boot it up, and lo and behold, and told I can't connect to EA Online- the main menu has a "Go Online" button, which I hit, it says connecting, and then the main menu refreshes, still not connected. Interestingly, I am able to play all the other Battlefield games without issue- 3, 4, and V all boot up just fine, connect to EA Online, and let me play. Help!

I've done literally everything I can think of trying to fix this; here's a list:

Rebooted PC
Ran EA app as admin

Ran BF1 as admin

Made sure BF1 isn't being blocked by Windows Defender

Made sure file directory isn't being blocked by controlled folder access

Reinstalled game

Reinstalled EA app

Cleared EA app cache

Verified game files

Reset Windows network settings

Flushed DNS

Changed DNS

Forwarded relevant BF1 ports

Confirmed I don't have an account ban

Honestly I suspect I'm even forgetting some other things I've tried, but nothing has helped. I was able to chat with EA support twice, and they were not helpful, and now I see they've marked my cases as "Fixed" while obviously that isn't the case, despite assuring me that I'd be hearing back from them with escalated help. What's even more upsetting is now it seems the chat option I used in the first place to open the cases is gone?

Do I just have no recourse here? That seems insane, but then again, as far as I can tell, EA no longer has actual support?

Any ideas for things that might fix this and let me play BF1 again? Help!

Thanks!

No; my initial copy was through EA/Origin- at some point in the last year, I picked up a copy on Steam just to rule out any issues with the EA app.

I do not believe the issue is tied to Steam, but my EA account.

Moving the Battlefield 1 folder out of Documents didn't work?

The Twinkle folder inside Battlefield 1 folder stores all the in-game menus data.

The 'main menu refreshes' makes me wonder if it's a menu data bug.

It didn't, I suppose I could try again though.

That being said, given that another account on the same PC and installation worked just fine, is that liable to be the issue?

If BF1 is working with a different EA account then it does indeed sound like an account login error is occuring on EA's end.

Any idea if it's even possible to speak to the right people at EA? I've opened at least 4 cases for this, the first three they auto closed, and the 4th one, no response.

There has to be recourse here, right? I just wanna play the game haha!

I would try the live chat option when contacting EA support.

Unfortunately, it seems there is no live chat option for BF1 based issues. I was however able to get to live chat by submitting it as a BF6 issue (lol) but so far, they've been very unhelpful, and refuse to acknowledge that this seems to pretty clearly be an account issue, and that no amount of running it as an admin or repairing the installation will fix it.

Live chat was unfortunately totally unhelpful. They refused to really listen to anything I said, instead repeating the same nonsense connectivity troubleshooting steps over and over despite me telling them I had already attempted said steps and the issue is clearly with my account. Pretty they were just gaslighting me.

Is there just no recourse here? Buy BF1 again on another account and lose all 454 hours of progress? Thanks EA!

  • Well, update, thought it's not really a positive one, and seems to only further confirm some of my suspicions here.

I was at a buddy's house last night, and brought my laptop (a different computer than the one I normally use). I installed BF1 via Steam, and sure enough, same issue.

So, to summarize; different PC, different game installation, different wifi network, but the issue persists, same as before. For me, this fully confirms that for some reason, my account is the issue. Given that EA reports I have no bans or anything, it's very frustrating to not be able to connect with any support engineers at EA who might theoretically be able to see or fix the issue with my account.

I guess if I really wanted to, I could make a new EA account, buy the game (for the 3rd time at this point!) and I suspect that would work. Unfortunately, having hundreds of hours in the game already, and all the weapons unlocked, the prospect of paying EA money and starting over because they broke and won't fix my account doesn't exactly sit well with me.

Maybe someone from EA will see this and help me figure out how to actually reach a support team capable of understanding or maybe even fixing my issue!

Seems unlikely at this point though :(
