Battlefield 1 No play Button - can't launch the game

Hi guys, not played BF1 for a while but I decided to go back to it recently.

To my surprise there's no play button in Origin so I can't click Play on BF1, all other games work fine in Origin.

Sometimes I can launch it from the exe in the installation folder and it works but today even that's not working.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

  • Thanks for your help guys, I managed to fix it.

It was a problem with Origin. I noticed when I ran Origin it came up with a message saying that it was running in compatibility mode so I searched online how to fix that and then that solved the problem.

Origin seems to have so many issues, so many errors and little problems like this, they should really make Origin better for gamers.

    Thanks for your help.

@SkScotchegg Does it show as running in task manager? If you right-click on the tile in your library can you repair the game?
  • Thanks for your reply.

No the game doesn't appear in my task manager, it doesn't launch at all.

I've also repaired the game and it's made no difference.

I recently built a new PC, I'm running 9900k + RTX 2080 + 32gb ram + windows 10 with latest updates and latest nvidia drivers.

Do you know how I can get the play button to appear in Origin?

EDIT: One more details if it helps...when I first tried to reinstall the game last week there was no download button in origin but after searching google I found a solution to delete some origin folders from my PC and then the download button appeared. I installed the game but now the play button is not highlighted, so I can't click play.

Other games like Apex, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 5, Star Wars Battlefront etc all work fine.

    Thanks in advance.

@SkScotchegg Thank you for the details and update, General the play button will be greyed out if something is install/updating or if the game should be running already. We need to look at why it thinks something is going on, When you cleared files did it look like the steps here, Clear Origin Cache? Also to check can you hit options like 'update game' or 'move game'? I am wondering if the issue lies with Origin or with BF1.

  • @SkScotchegg This will sound a bit crazy, but it worked for me in another situation, so who knows if it can solve things for you. Here’s what to do:

    1) Make a copy of your Battlefield 1 folder

    2) Uninstall BF1

    3) Install BF1

    4) Copy your old BF1 folder into the newly installed BF1 folder -or- Move the newly installed BF1 folder to something like Battlefield 1.old, then move your old BF1 folder into the place expected by Origin.

Hope 4) makes sense - I can’t remember if I did the first suggestion or the latter, sorry.
