Battlefield 1 Ryzen sudden stuttering

It all started less than two months ago, when I upgraded my pc and switched to an AMD Ryzen build. My system is composed of R7 1700X, G. Skill DDR4 3200Mhz, AsRock X370 Taichi and a sapphire R9 290 (The only "old" component) a 1440p monitor with Freesync and a SanDisk Extreme Pro II 480GB SSD. All is powered by a corsair AX860i psu.

On this new system all the games I play run fine: dark souls 3, civilization 6, xcom 2, the witcher 3...all BUT Battlefield 1.

The problem is that while the game runs butterly smooth at 1440p ultra settings (I always stay between 45-60 fps) once in about one hour of gaming, the game starts a "driver panic" mode and starts stuttering BADLY with the mouse movement that is heavily delayed and FPS down to 3-5. For about 10 seconds the game is completely UNPLAYABLE then, as suddenly as it appeared, the problem goes away and I'm able to play fine until the next "panic".

Now, since it's about two months that this problem is plaguing me, I've done a LOT of test and tried many fix, again, all without success. Here is the list:

- AMD radeon drivers: 17.4.4, 17.5.1, 17.6.1, 17.6.2 -> same problem;

- cleaned the drivers with last version of DDU;

- reinstalled the game;

- repaired the game;

- clean boot of windows 10, disabling ALL the non-microsoft services and programs;

- formatted and reinstalled windows along with the game;

- switched the motherboard (previously I had a Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5), same problem;

- tried a friend's new RX 580, SAME PROBLEM;

- tried creating user.cfg file for forcing BF1 to use more than 4 cores (tried 8 and 12) -> the only thing that changed is that with more than 4 cores, when the problem occurs, 1 time out of 3 it crashes or freezes the game instead of just stuttering;

- installed msi afterburner to monitor gpu usage. Found that when the problem occurs, GPU usage and clock goes crazy and continuosly fluctuates between 0 and 100%;

- tried CLOCKBLOCKER to lock the GPU clock at its max while playing;

- disable AMD Freesync and enable in-game v-sync;

- switch "memory restiction" flag in the in-game settings (both on/off);

- overclock the GPU;

- disabled game DVR in windows 10;

- disabled game mode in windows 10;

As you can see, I've tried a lot of things but none worked so far...now I'm out of new ideas.

Any help would be much much appreciated!

You've done a thorough job of troubleshooting so far. One thing that I see missing is disabling Origin in game. When you disable it do it both in the Origin application settings and in the BF1 Origin settings when you right click the BF1 icon in origin and select "show game details".  Try this and tell us if it helps.

Since you're in Win10 I also recommend on disabling the Win10 DVR function as that causes issues sometimes.

On a related note MSI afterburner is known to cause issues with multiple BF titles so when you test the origin in game solution be sure to disable MSI afterburner.

Yeah, it has been a tough job so far. And no solution yet...

So I'll try disabling origin in-game in both general settings and battlefield 1 game options. I'll also disable msi afterburner along with rivatuner statistics service. I'll let you know tomorrow if it works.

For windows 10 game DVR I've already tried disabling it (and left it disabled for what matters). 

I usually use Radeon Relive to record some gaming session and have that active from the AMD driver settings, but I've already tried disabling or even uninstall it with no avail.

As another similar thread solved a similar problem with a ryzen build by lowering RAM frequency, tonight I've also tried lowering RAM frequency to default 2400mhz instead of 3200mhz, but the problem is still there...

Tried disabling origin in game along with msi ab: still no success. After 1 hour of gaming the problem occured again. This time though, I had the impression that it was a little better because, even if it was completely unplayable, the stutters lasted a bit less.

Any other advice? 🙂

@SoulbringerITA im also sitting with the same problem constantly random stutters withour any reason EA FIX THIS i have a gigabyte gaming 5 board that stutter is making me mad too :P

I'm starting to think this is just a bad bug in the game code that EA/Dice will not fix anytime soon. I'm bashing my head against EA customer care without success: they just continuosly tell me to try clean boots, setting static ip, open ports and so on, without understanding the real problem.

I think i will just stop playing the game and move to other, more well supported, titles.

@SoulbringerITA Downgrade your windows 10 from version 1703 to 1607 this fixed for me try this and thank me later this will work

@Soldaatkevin1 Thanks for the tip. I'll try to format and reinstall windows 10 anniversary update build 1607. I hope that it work for me too.

So have you managed to resolve ALL the stuttering with the anniversary?

yes this fixed all stutters and slowyness also turn off HPET in the bios Good luck

@Soldaatkevin1 The rollback to windows 10 anniversary update was not successful...the problem is still there. After an hour of gaming the stutter occured again. I even tried to switch the PSU and used another Corsair HX620W...still same problem. God, this issue is driving me mad...

I really have no clue on what it may be related to. The only components that I've not already switched are the SSD on which the OS and the game itself are installed, the brand new RAM and the brand new CPU.

But I think that, should one of those components be the cause, I should have many problems event on the normal use of the desktop...
