Battlefield 1 "your graphics card is below the minimum hardware specification"

I get that message when the game attempts to load, and then the game subsequently crashes. 

I am using an MSI Radeon R9 290, so this can't actually be the issue since I exceed the minimum requirements.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My drivers are all up to date and the card shows as working in the device manager.

    The suggestion is to use DDU and clean out a damaged driver, replace it with a fresh copy, as per Carbonic's link. 

    (Assuming you actually know what video graphics adapter cards qualify for support, as was true for the OP author.) 

        Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ HD 7850 2GB
        Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce® GTX 660 2GB
        DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
